German/French/English pasteups for combat and event cards

By fw_fenix, in StarCraft

hello everybody,

Beeing a huge Starcraft fan and a board game lover as well, I absolutely want to buy the StarCraft Board Game, yet Im afraid I wont have an easy time finding people to play it with me, especially since I live in a rather multicultural environment: I am German and my girlfriend is french and we share many friends of those two nationalities, and in two years I will study in France as well...

In order to possibly motivate them, since many of them dont speak the other language, it would really help to have the cards, combat, as well as event, in two languages, which is to say, if I buy the game in one language, i would have to find a way to get another set of cards in the other language, bought, printed out by myself, whatsoever.

So the question, does anyone have pasteups, good scans, or any other way of getting the cards short of buying the whole game, of all the cards in either German or French? English would help as well.

Thank you very much for any help in advance

best regards

Franz

No pasteups, just an idea: If English would help, getting the game in English is not an option?

normally yes, but unfortnately i must add that most of the french i've met so far were aything else than proficient in english...

I'm not entirely sure, but wasn't there to be a French version of the Board game as there was a German one?

yes, there is a french version, but i dont have the money to buy the game twice ;)

but i thought since there is a version in french and german, someone could possibly have made scans of them, or translated them in order to forge pasteups... ive seen good quality pasteups i spanish and polish on the starcraft page of boardgamegeek.com, so i hoped someone might have done the same thing for germans or french (e.g. in the time where there wasnt a german/french version of starcraft on the market and there were hundreds of german/french players keen on playing it, yet maybe one among a hundred didnt feel to comfortable with his english, or the english of his friends for that matter... )

Isn't the French publisher nice enough to provide the rules as download? A shame.

yes he did, and i already downloaded the rules in french, but this thread isnt about the rules, its about the cards.

im thankful for you anticipation and urge to help but please dont post unuseful information or comments, thank you.

Well, then, you need some key phrases. Write them down and translate them and hand the list to every player.

Inspired by your post and the problems of some players in my own group, I made a sheet with German translations of all the event cards, the unclear combat cards, and all tech and leadership cards, plus special abilities (like cloaking or sacrifice).

An early version is available here, I'd be very grateful for feedback.

It's by no means a pasteup or a way to replace the original cards, mostly a translation aid - some cards list 5+ unit types that their abilities apply to, and I just referred "listed units" there lengua.gif - and, I haven't spent that much time with the layout, after it seemed readable enough I stopped fiddling (due to lack of time). And I'm sure there's hundreds of typoes, and I haven't decided on consistent capitalization either.

But it's a start gran_risa.gif

As for that reference sheet / translation thing / player aid hybrid in German...

I scoured the thing for typoes and unified capitalization and semantics a bit, and tweaked the layout to make it bearable. It's version 1.0, yay.

Have a look and tell me whether it makes sense , please happy.gif
