Action cards not restricted by careers?

By donbaloo2, in WFRP Rules Questions

So for the life of me I can't see any rule that limits any action card to specific careers. Or limits them to anything really (providing that any characteristic or skill requirements are met). Is this right?

Looks to me like any career can purchase Troll Feller or even a spell action card for that matter. Obviously some action cards, like spells, would have some pretty significant narrative implications outside their "assumed" career but theres no rule against it that I can find. Can someone confirm or rebut this for me?

per RAW, Spells and blessings are restricted to wizards and priests respectively. Otherwise, you are correct. Other action cards are only restricted based on requirements indicated on the cards themselves.

Thanks dvang. I'll start looking again but if anyone has the quick reference on where it states that spells are only for wizards and priests I'd like to have it on hand. Thanks for the quick reply dvang...

I don't have my books here in front of me. As I recall, it was mentioned in the character creation rules when it talks about purchasing action cards, and which action cards that wizards and priests start with. It said something about only being able to acquire spells/blessings of the Order/Faith card the character has, I think.

Traits that are rule limitations : Spell, Blessing, Pet.

But it is so nice to limit cards with traits for both players and GM... Way of the sword for swordmaster, Ancestors for dwarfs characters, Slayer for Slayers, Judgment for Witchhunter and zealots, Watcher for waywatcher, ritual dance for wardancers... These characters have got their own specific moves and you are then happy to access to these careers.

In my game I made ironbreaker, swordmaster, wardancers and waywatcher to be Advanced careers.

Hi,

Totally agree. I wouldnt allow players to buy Ancestor/Ritual Dance/Way of the Sword/etc out of career in the games I run.

To be fair to the players none of them even considered taking them out of career. IMHO Something wrong about a dwarf slayer jiving a Ritual Dance cos he spent some time in Athel Loren, or an elf envoy singing a saga after reading some dwarfen literature... gui%C3%B1o.gif
