Editing a Post

By Tokhuah, in CoC General Discussion

Is there a hidden method for editing a post? Previously I thought editing was impossible but then I saw this thread:

www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp

It looks like the first post has an edit?!?!

My reason for asking is that I want to start a thread in Deck Construction, but do not want to post the whole deck all at once. Typically a player posts their deck and people comment. What I would like to do is gradually add components to the deck and, in a series of follow-up posts, explain the thought behind using those cards. In other words, I want to construct a Living Card Deck Article from the bottom up and have the ability to edit the innitial post to indicate the various components as I add them. This will also allow the deck to contain its seed concept while being edited across AP releases.

Thoughts?

EDIT: Strange system... but I get it now!

I know you've always been able to edit after the first 5 minutes of posting, but that's the only way I know of. Maybe there's some other trick we don't know about. I'm gonna time how long the edit link works on this reply.

MUHAHAHAHAHA. I figured out how to do it. (You can see my edit in that same thread)

EDIT: On a side note, it does appear to make the thread "update" and the last poster is the editor. I think this is another example of why hand-crafting your own forum is a bit silly. All sorts of problems can occur. If you just use something like phpBB that has been tested by so many people, is quite stable, and almost all current forum goers have experience with then... well.... life is easier.

How did you edit? I cannot figure out how to do it... sorpresa.gif

Doh! I get it now...

It is hidden like Steadfast! lengua.gif

Yeah took me a while to figure out what each of the efid/efcid/efidt were, but there ya go. :)

One thing to be wary of though. It seems this is one way to make a post always look "new". I.e. nothing will show that post i ninja-edited as "read" now.

just testing... (nothing to see here)

Edit: I have a suspicion the board software doesn't even protect your posts from being edited by other users. Playing around with different ids is having some weird effects... sorpresa.gif

phpBB is tested by a lot of people, including those who write scripts that spam said forums. I don't think this forum is made 'from the ground up' either, as it seems to be coded in Spanish, for Edge Entertainment. The software is quite buggy, though. Well, at least there are very few spambots active.

Hehehe something about our posts and the 'ground up' made me start giggling due to the "Things from the Ground" reference. Started thinking about posts coming into play insane and such. :)

I'm sure anything I write or post comes into play insane. Don't need a Finchington for that!

For more master of insanity foo:

johnny shoes' posts come into play insane. Forced Response: After a johnny shoes post comes into play in a thread all other posts are driven insane if they commit to a story, even if the post includes terror or willpower. This ability can not be disrupted.

OFFICIAL RULING: Since johnny shoes creates an insanity lock down he automatically wins any thread he posts into.

Yeah but you forgot not even Shoes can compete with the most dreaded of all characters...

Forum Troller
Type:Character Faction:Cthulhu (Yog?)
Cost:0
Lurker
Invulnerability. Willpower.
Action: Sacrifice a reasonable thread to drive all posters in the thread insane for all time.

While Forum Troller is in play, no threads can be restored.

(note: for clarity, I'm not calling any of us trolls)

"Use this forum software - it's so horrible spambots won't be able to use or abuse it! Or your users!"

The ability is distinctly Hastur faction, while the flavour evokes Shub. Also, the proposed flavortext is horrible. Not calling any of us trolls? Sarcasm doesn't translate well to card text. The flavortext should be "problem?"

Also, the subtype Lurker is inappropriate. How can it posts when it lurks?

I suggest to change the ability to:

Action: Drive all characters with terror icons insane. Use this ability only while Troll is in your deck. Shuffle your discard pile afterwards.

You know, I actually debated the faction for awhile. I intentionally picked a faction that didn't make sense so that he was posting in the wrong forum. :P

As for the flavor text. I hadn't actually intended it as such, but more of a caveat on the post so non of you thought I was calling you all trolls. If I had to pick a real flavor text I think I'd go with... grrr can't come up with anything.

You're 100% correct that subtype is just bad. How some Zhann to make it look real similar to something else, thereby causing all sorts of debate. Instigator typoed to Invstigator.

I like his action. However, I'll add in:

Forced Response: When a character with a terror icon goes insane and Troll is in your deck, shuffle your discard pile. Then shuffle your hand, if not able.
