Greatsword?

By Caralon, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Whoa, is the greatsword really supposed to do 2d10 damage? That seems crazy. It seems to good, even if it is Unwieldy. One of my Acolytes ended up with a Mono Greatsword at level one, so he lost the primitive trait and is now doing 2d10 + 1 damage all the time - is this a problem?

The greatsword does nice damage, but sacrifices the ability to parry, as you've noted. Make sure you're making parry rolls for your NPC against this player. If your NPCs only have guns, give them the melee attachment, which lets them parry (I think, if spears can parry).

A guy carrying a BIG fricking sword might also be a bit "SHOOT ME IN THE FACE" kind of indicator for his enemies. If he's rushing into melee, throw some a couple of guys at him so he's outnumbered.

But yeah, the stats are right.

2d10+1? He has SB 1? Stats are 2d10+SB, Penetration 2 (Mono). And yes, it is extremely good at low ranks, although it can be outdone by dual-wielding assassins with power weapons.

Not being able to parry is a definitive disadvantage though, unless the character has a very good dodge skill.

Though it is alot easier to get dodge+20 than it is to get parry+20 gui%C3%B1o.gif

I always though it strange that there is no way to increase your parry except by increasing WS. It makes dodge much more useful than parry. I don´t think any character in our group ever try to parry.

You're missing out on Counter Attack, then.

Our Assassin's face split in joy whenever someone would attack him in melee. Parry, Counter Attack, then Assassin Strike away if he felt like it.

Course, he was a high level Moritat, so that is completely what he SHOULD be able to do. Made for quite a few cinematic moments.

Balanced Weapons give +10% parry. Defensive gives +15%. And Increasing WS both improves attack and parry. So yeah, it's pretty decent, and it's essentially free. Dodge is very good but requires more investment in a purely defensive ability.

The Assassin in my group uses both dodge and parry, has +20% dodge, 40+ agility, but his good WS combined with defensive quality, power weapons and/or Counter Attack means that Parry is nice indeed. Step Aside and Wall of Steel doesen't hurt either ,)

And it sacrifices the ability to quickdraw it, the ability to have a ranged weapon ready, the ability to get an additional attack by dual wielding.
