When using alternate ranks from IH, do everything on the old path cost 50 extra?

Say you are a scum from gunmetal city, who chooses to be a gunslingerfrom the getgo. Do everything on the regular scum path cost 50exp extra? or just on rank 1?

Only the rank you swap, all other ranks work as normal. At least that is how I read the rules on pages 52-53 of the IH.
