Inconsistencies and Problems with the Pathfinder Maps

By Xibalba, in Tannhauser

I have to start by saying that I really like this game, now with the Revised Rules, but I am very disappointed with the Pathfinder system. In theory, this sounds like a great way to avoid Line of Sight issues that sometimes come up in miniatures games. You should be able to immediately see if two miniatures can see each other, and movement should be a breeze. Unfortunately, at least for me, in execution, the maps have several instances where it is difficult to see if two circles are adjacent. This should just not be the case as it destroys the utility of the system. The tactical maps are suppose to aid this, but I "disagree" with them in several spots, especially on the Daedelus map.

What do others think about this? Am I reading the maps wrong? Please help.

[EDIT - I forgot to label a box at the top, that seems to be missing a link.]

A - Seems to be missing a link
B - Other "one way arrow" links are not marked on tactical map
C - Other "one way arrow" links are not marked on tactical map
D - Seems to be missing a link
E - Seems to be missing a link
F - Seems to be missing a link
G - Seems to be missing a link
H - This one I am not too sure about, but it seems to be missing a link. Perhaps not because the circles on on different paths.
I - This link is longer than either J or K
J - Seems to be missing a link
K - Seems to be missing a link
L - In the Revised Rules, this circle is Yellow and Blue, but on my map and in this old version of the Tactical Map, it is Blue and Pink.

(I also hate that the fact that you cannot see the modifier in a circle while a miniature is on it. Instead, the symbols should have been outside and next to the circle, but that is another story.)

Some of your concerns seems right, however during playing, I didn't find any problem with those things you say (and I've played bunch of those). I use tatical map mainly for checking circles where I'm not sure and that worked perfectly.

Thanks for the reply. So Falco, do you think you play mostly as shown in the Tactical Maps or more like I describe in the text of my post. The reason I am asking is that I am considering using a marker to connect circles on my board. I want to make it as accurate as possible, of course, so I wanted to ask the community how they play

As an aside, has anyone else drawn lines on their boards to help see connected circles without resorting to the tactical maps?

I wouldln't mark those, as I've checked them more closely they seem ok. I'll play those adjanced circles as in the rulebook.

I handle it like Falco: playing as seen in the rulebook, and not connecting them by pen. Once you looked it up two or so times in the rulebook, you´ll get used to the mechanic. It´s not as hard as it seems at first sight.

Thanks for the tips, but I still am confused about the use of the tactical maps, especially for the Labyrinth map. It just seems the map has mistakes on it. During play, I would assume that the two blue-grey and orange circles in the top left of the map are connected (the unlabeled green rectangle on my image), but the tactical map shows they are not connected. Do people assume the tactical map is wrong? If you play as the tactical map shows, why are the circles not connected? I don't see the logic behind the lack of connection there. It seems in general circles are connected if both: a. the circles are close enough, and b. the circles are not blocked by a wall or other barrier. With this logic, why is there no connection? Same for rectangle D and F (and others, but those seem the worst).
