Legion of the Damned

By DrewVolker, in Deathwatch House Rules

Hello there friends and gamers.

I have a request for the home-ruling community.

I would like someone to help me with making rules for a legion of the damned marine. (Yes I know its fluff-wise impossible, but humour me here).

Any takers?

CSM statline would be a good base

The Stuff of Nightmares would be a good place to start for more traits, but could probably get away with mark of Nurgle, and some sort of integral shield (PR 25-40 ish no failure area) To make them really scary allow them double the actions each round, to represent them not quite being in sync with reality.

Writing in some system for how they appear couldn't hurt but probably isn't needed.

Unless you mean as some kind of player character in which these rules don't help a lot.

Well, I have already given up the hope of being allow to play one in any game ever, but I would like to make rules for them for npcs and such.

I'd say not actually, or maybe is. Depends on your happen stance.

The first real obsticle, if you're really fluffy, is that it's only around 840.M41 I believe in the Jericho reach. The incident with the firehawks didn't hapen until 963.M41. So you could still potentially play a firehawk, but they're a normalistic chapter.

information can be found here

But, if you want to discount that, you could still play a Legion character, I think. The Legion's purpose is to look for death. They know they're going to die, but they want to die with a purpose, which is what spirits them on. What better way to die with a purpose than in the deathwatch?

In terms of play, I'd say they'd be somewhere between blood angels and black templars. A quiet and cold character, but rather than the templar's doing this to be pios, he's alone because of the horrible mutation he harbors, and knows it will drive him berserk one day.

I'd say that said marine should arrive at the watch fortress as a black shield (found in RoB), but might appear as is, though if he does, it might spark wide controversey.

In terms of stats, I'd be willing to pump this character up as GM, but at a price. I don't expect this character to last long unless the character is really lucky. I don't see them living past Rank 5 at the most.

+10 Strength, +5 in any other except fellowship, -10 in fellowship. The Legion marine is strong in body, and disciplined in other areas as a fighter, but due to his mutatiion and want of death, he does not get along well with other marines. He gains the Fearless talent automatically. After every mission, he gains 1d10 insanity points to a minimum of one, and these cannot be lost in any way. at 25, 50, 75 he automatically gains another degree of unnatural strength, but looses two wounds each time. At 100 insanity points, the character goes insane and is likely to attack anything and everythign in a beserk rage.

In battle, his is similar to an imperial fist, not wanting to back down, but this is because of his death wish.

These are just some preliminary thoughts, but I think that they could work. I don't have an advance table.

Thanks for the information for a player, I might try that sometime.

But as for now, I would like to make rules for them as npcs.

As such, balancing them with a player character is not the focus at the moment, I'm trying to come up with a list of talents and traits that they would have. Mabye fear (1 or 2), possibly the deamon stuff the guy above mentioned. Like mark of nurgle and such.

I was just hopeing someone could help me with ideas.

In the main forum there is a thread called Mini-Idea Dump. At the end of it, you'll find two alternative ideas for LotD NPCs.
