Last Patch Event Announced

By Tallgeese, in UFS Uk Forum

For those who haven't seen this yet: new.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp

All the usual stuff is there, but what will or should interest most people is the announcement of the final patch event. The patches that you guys have been winning act as an invitation to the FFG Head Office for a fantastic day of UFS goodness. That is, to me, a cool day out, it reminds me of how cool it was to go up to Warhammer World for events, it was almost like a pilgimage. Unfortuntaely there is no way I can afford to take a week off to attend a week end event in America, as much as I would like to. Unless FFG want to pay for to go *hint* *hint*.

Quite where this leaves us in the Uk and Europe I'm not sure, mostly as I haven't asked yet, but I don't think a trip to Esdevium is quite the attraction that Warhammer World or FFG Head office is. happy.gif To be honest I don't even know if we will be given this event, although it does seem slightly churlish of FFG if they don't. This was more just a heads up to all really, if and when I get more details I will post them up.

What would you guys like to the event to be? I don't think we can do a three day fest unfortunately, but if anyone has any cunning ideas lets be having them......... happy.gif

Hmm......

I can't see anyone going to the States for a Weekend tbh, and whilst a trip to Esdevium is tempting I agree we should run some sort of Event.

Maybe some sort of crazy type rule event? Maybe your deck can only run off symbols you have one a patch for? So the more patches you have, the more options for your deck? Thinking outloud here so probably really not thought through properly lol

As for where and when I have no idea on that preocupado.gif

Zi Mei? Again? Come on FFG, where's the promo support gone? There are promos thathaven't been released yet like Rock Howard and you give us something we all already have? Not happy. I sincerely hope we do get some form of tournament in the UK for the Patch events, otherwise we've all been wasting our time with these events and I would much rather have run standard events than those, but the 'light at the end of the tunnel' was supposed to have made it worth it. Now I'm normally extraordinarly patient with FFG when it comes to these things, but even I will be upset if some results aren't shown here. On the flipside though, if there is a big event to be held in the UK (as I do imagine there will be), I'm heavily looking forward to it :)

Also, Steve, did you get the text I sent you earlier in the week about the new league kits? Not to worry if you didn't, just wanted to check :)

have just read it, would be devistated if there was no big event for us over here as these events have had me questioning my injoyment of the game over the last 8-10months, i have loved a lot of the sets but with single symbol events with small differences in deck have make me very board at times, all thats kept me going is the promise of a cool event of whatever deck you want to run, seeing wierd and wonderful decks based of as many symbols as people want. Anyway thats my 2 cents (20p) i just hope they sort us out!

I think we need to run something for the patch endgame, but I'm not sure what. If there are any special rules for the tournament held at FFG we could incorporate those. That way it would make a patch event a little different.

If there are no special rules and it is simply a normal sanctioned event (the special bit coming from the FFG office location + extras), then, umm, not sure. Would we want a "normal" tournament or something different?

What happened to the special promo that was meant to be available at the final event for patch winners? Is this still being given out at the weekend at FFG or was this idea abandoned when FFG took over?

This all makes the last 10 months feel like a big waste of time to be honest.

Who knows? As so few details have been released yet about what the event will involve it's hard to say what will be going on. I was under the impression that you got one promo card for each patch that you had won, so no one will get the ifinity patch in the UK unless the bought it or aquired it anotehr way. I wouldn't write off the idea that this is happening just yet, they haven't said that it won't happen. Half full, not half empty Rob......... happy.gif

We do need to do something though, alas Warhammer World is out of the question these days. That throws up the issue of where to run it, who will run it, will any shop be involved, etc., etc. and as much as the idea of holding it at Esdevium vaguely amuses me, it's never going to happen. Ah well, it will all come out in the wash........... happy.gif

The Americans can talk about glass half full or half empty, right now we don't even have a glass. All it would have taken is one extra sentence to say that something was being considered for the rest of the world and I'd be as optimistic as the next guy, but we don't even get that consideration.

Sorry, but I'm in a bit of a "half empty" mood about UFS in general right now.

Just wondering if anyone's taken the time to contact Paul Bromen <pbromen@fantasyflightgames.com> who's just gotten back from vacation, and seen what he's planning for you gentlemen in the UK?

Yes, me, as I deal with FFG professionally as part of my job and sort of look after UFS in the UK, sort of. I'd like to thank you for feeling the need to suggest the idea, it's not like anyone over here would be capable of coming up with it. As a result of said telephone conversation, yes we have those too, it means we can speak to people, I can't actually give anymore details on what is happening as yet.

What I can do is assure every UK and European player that there will be an invitational in the UK at around the same time as the North American one.

Trust me on this one guys, I've gone to bat heavily over this one, we won't be let down.

As long as you're not batting for England, you'll be fine. West Indies maybe? Australia? Pakistan?

...actually I take it all back. We just might have a chance if they don't realise that we're not playing baseball!

I'm guessing this will be the case, but the UK/Europe invitational will take place before UK Nats? Could this somehow take the form of the Nats warm-up tournament similar to the one held in Aldershot last year?

We are talking about a country that calls it the world series and only they take part.................................. gran_risa.gif

But yeah, something like the Pre Nationals Mash-A-Thon that I did in Aldershot, only bigger and better............................. happy.gif

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend. I just saw some of the response from folks seeming to get a little brisk at the notion of being snubbed and not getting an event of your own. I just wanted to make sure that folks were aware that you guys were getting love too.

Anyhow... ignore me, I'll go wander back to my own side of the pond/message board.

I think you just hit on a touchy subject Antigoth. Long days at work, plus professional jobs and standard enquiries made within the role of a professional.

One thing you may not be aware of, I think the UK playerbase in general is older (and dare I say more sensible) than the US playerbase. Most of our players are University students or in some kind of employment. I can think of at least five UK board members in contact with Paul/FFG who do use telephone/email as first port of call. If you look at the UK reactions to the discussions surrounding Talbain, CSS and Odious Scion, I think here things tend to progress at a more sedate and rational pace.

nah, it's not your fault, I'd just got off the phone with Paul and the conversation was, erm, interesting shall we say, hard to say what as I don't want to disclose anything at this point. No offence taken and I hope you didn't take any either, just me having a rant.

I have a big appreciation for the UK player base. Whether it's been Raw Deal, V:TES, or UFS you guys have always been awesome. I've tended to find that for Raw Deal especially the UK meta and player base was very similar to the Winnipeg meta and player base. (Long stories that I could go into but won't bore you guys over) Outside of a few folks like yourself Mr H, I haven't had as much exposure to the UK UFS player base. Thanks for confirming something that I was wondering. (Do you guys meet and play in pubs too?)

<If I ask nice, any of you feel like offering crash space if I come visit in 2010 to play some UFS?>

's all good. I understand. I really do.

P.S. W00T! I managed to get a double quote in one post.

I should have a bigger house by then, and Colchester has one of the larger metas in the UK for UFS, so if you're still around then, I'm sure I could sort you out :)

Ok due to there being no pm system ill have to ask this way,

Tallgeese - All our pacth events in coventry are down as sanctioned but for whatever reason we had no prize support in form of patches or promos, This goes for both the water and the air events, any idea if there is a problem with the address of the store etc as i know that caused you an issue before when sending.

The prize support for Coventry was sent on Friday when I received it from America, it was sent to Bishop Games so I would check with them to make sure they received it. All the prize support for December was sent out as per normal, but I wasn't sent any spares of the Water patch kit, so I wouldn't be able to replace that one for you unless the Americans could send me more. What I intend doing is offering what was offered by Jim at the SC Nats, a patch up tournament for all stores who wish to do it, I don't by any means have every patch as spares, but with the big final event in April I want to give as many people as possible the chance to participate in what I know will be a fantastic event.

A Patch Up tournament is a great idea, I know a lot of players here would want to venture out to play in those, after their patches were wretched from their grasp! I know at least one player in particular is after the order patch. Let us know when you're thinking of holding that, and I'll try and get up there. Also, with the tournament organiser patches, what happens when it comes to the Void Patch? We normally get sent the last one, so if there's no next one after Void, how do I get my own one of those?

The idea is that I am going to put together a kit out of what I have here and open it up to any store or venue that would like to run a patch up event. The kit will be made up of what I have here, people won't be able to pick and choose which patched they receive as all of the kits will contain one of every patch that I have multiples of. The idea is that these events will be ran in March , that's the cunning plan anyway.................... happy.gif

Don't worry about the scout patch for the Void event, that will arrive in your OP support as per usual, as long as you get the events registered in time............. happy.gif

Raw Deal multiplayer was always fantastic. At one of the London GenCon's, we had a 22 player Royal Rumble. One foolish player let it be known that he had a McDonalds staff discount card. He was then DLB'd out the multiplayer by 21 other players before being sent for food with a bulk order for 22 Big Mac's!

(Yes, McDonalds, how times have changed...)

Some ccg groups still play in pubs, it's very town/group specific. In Nottingham I know there is pub-based UFS, not sure about other places in the country. I do know that the Birmingham UFS players have run tournaments in Tearmat's Judo club though.

Crash space... I don't even know where I'll be in 2010!

On a complete tangent, the World Series *is* contested by the best teams in the world. The fact that they're all based in North America is irrelevant: baseball is played all over the world, with 50,000+ crowds at games in Asia and Central/South America, but the MLB teams outmatch the best teams from elsewhere in the world by some considerable distance.

Also as an aside, the UK's best ever Olympic medal haul came at an event we not only hosted, but also invented such classic disciplines as Tug of War...which was only actually entered by UK teams...

And yet ironicly at the first World Baseball Classic, a 16 Nation tournament, Japan won. lengua.gif
