Action card Ranks, Experience and Completing Careers

By chikago666, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hello ppl. Im here because I´m lost.

First. IFAIK, WFRP 3rd edition works in this way:

1 - Rank 1 Exp is 0-9, Rank 2 Exp is 10-19 and so on. 10 Experience each rank

2 - To fulfill a career, you must spend 10 Advances.

3- To gain the Carrer´s special ability card, you must spend one more advance

4- To change career after that you must spend more advances (or maybe none, if next career has only one (or two if Reiklander) diff traits)

5 - You can buy Action cards of rank equal or less of your rank.

That way, I dont see a character advancing one career by rank. You must spend more advances to gain the special ability, and maybe more to change careers. in WoM says that the career rank is the acess that the character has to get spells, but doing the math he will need 11 Xp to get into rank 2 spells, being a rank 2 char on its 10 xp. Would be more easier if the character gains for free the special ability card if he complete the career?

Well, I hope my lack of english skills dont confuse you ppl.

PCs can buy spells of any rank, it just costs an additional advance per rank it is higher than the PC, and adds an additional challenge die to cast per rank higher.

Even at creation, a PC could buy a Rank 3 spell, for example. It would just cost him 3 creation action cards (or 3 xp advances during his career)

That said ... it is also possible for a PC to advance a career without completing it. Of course, in the case of Wizards the requirements to advance are having completed the previous career, so in this particular case it wouldn't apply.
