some question on RTL

By Lord Loren Soth, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hello guys

we are planning to start a new campaign on March 18 and as an overlord i thought about a few rules, i wanted to know if someone else already used the scale factor for dungeon leaders like the leaders on the SoB dungeon cards, the leaders have + x armor and + x wounds for every campaign level, i'm thinking to apply this rule even to RTL dungeon cards, some of my players disagree because they think the overlord is way too powerful than the heroes, has anyone tried the level leaders scaling on rtl fcards like the ones on the SoB cards?

thanks in advance for all the responses

Haven't tried it myself. I would be willing to try it at least once, however, before deciding if it's "too powerful" or not.

It probably isn't a wise idea for RtL dungeon cards, as their leader bonuses haven't been given with a multiplier in mind. It will work ok most of the time, but when you have +2 armour/level or +24 wounds/level it might get out of hand.
You migt perhaps try it but give the heroes a limited amount of 'vetoes'?

or maybe we can try jalf bonus at silver and double bonus at gold campaign level, what about that? what do you think?

I think it would make things a little better for the overlord since at silver and especially at gold in RTL the heros walk through the leaders. and there are some leaders in SOB dungeons with +24 wounds and +1 armour per. you might want to think about including the conquest balancing from SOB as well so if your OL is over killing the heros he can not get too far ahead.

we already use it but one of my hero players keep whining telling that the overlord is already unbalanced and keep winning(in effect i already won until last campaign that i lost soundly after having the hero players choose their heroes and giving them the easy killing of alric)

We played with this rule in our advanced campaign, but only starting with the end of silver, when the heroes had become really strong. We were looking for a house rule to make things a little more balanced, and scaling the level leaders' bonuses was one of the things that fit the bill.

In one of the levels of the final keep, we had an interesting battle with a triple-bonus Master Demon leader. For the first time in a long while, the OL was able to kill three of us in a single level. It was a nice change from cleaning up dungeon levels in 2-3 turns!

I think the scaling is ok because it has no effect during the copper age (when it is the most difficult for the heroes), and it has no effect during lieutenant fights.
