Source Books

By Letrii, in Dark Heresy

Trying to compile a list of all source books for Dark Heresy. What I found so far are.

Core Rulebook

Inquisitor's Handbook

Radical's Handbook

Creatures Anathema

Disciples of the Dark Gods

Ascension

Blood of Martyrs

Are these all I need as a player, or should I buy some of the adventure books too?

I do not think you need any of the adventures. That said, some of them offer interesting NPCs and creatures, more information on certain locations (at time even including maps) or some new equipment. For example, Purge the Unclean has some Dark Eldar stats, iirc. Even if you're not playing them, they can give some good inspiration and new rules/gear/personalities.

So ... need to have? As a player? No. Merely nice to have. I'd say you could consider getting them when you don't know what else to do with those few bucks. If anything they're at least an interesting read with some cool ideas.

What's missing from your list is the GM Screen, though. Do not let yourself be fooled by its moniker: Apart from having a very handy reference screen with all the most important rules quickly to find it also comes with a small booklet that allows you to create your own creatures or poisons and toxins, including some official examples. The latter is very useful if you're playing an assassin.

What makes it particularly useful for assassins?

Okay, I'm thinking cliché here. The assassin may well prefer cleaner kills or explosives. But on the other hand it'd also be useful for Feral Worlders who just like to prepare their melee weapons with some animal venom regardless of career, or Hive Scum that likes to put some industrial waste on their knife to make it hurt even more.

In any case, the booklet includes a small list of official poisons/toxins you can use, as well as a small ruleset for designing your own and then present your idea to the GM for approval. This booklet's usefulness depends on if you ever want to poison people, I guess.

Alrighty, thanks for info.

Is there a master list of all books for all of the 40k product lines?

That just shows DH, there's not one with all product lines together? Guess I'll to look at each product line separately.

Here is a list off top of my head since I own most if not all the source books that are not campaign books

Dark Heresy: Core,GM guide, Inquisitors Handbook, Disciples of Dark Gods, Creatures Anathema, Radicals Handbook, Ascension, Blood of Martyrs.

Rouge Trader: Core, GM guide, Into the Storm, Lure of the Exspanse. - there is another battlefleet something or other I do not own.

DeathWatch: Core, GM guide, Rites of Battle.
