Newb Questions (Regarding core set)

By dmnyo, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Recently got the Core set and started playing with a few friend (some of which were familiar with Magic the gathering)

1: when the plot card Valhar morghulis is revealed, can a player with both ghost and jon snow, kneel ghost to save jon snow from being killed? I argued that ghost would be killed at the same time as jon so that he wouldn't be able to save him but my friend argues that "stack" allows ghost to save jon.

2:I'm using the master or whispers title and declare an intrigue challenge against the crown regeant and a power challenge against master of laws, and win both challenges, do I get to grab 2 power tokens or just one?

3: I've already declared attacker but my friend plays an event that stand one of my attacking characters, does the character that stand still part of the attack or was he "left out" of the attack?

4: Should we buy 1 more core set to be able to make customizing our decks easier or jump straight into chapter packs? What chapter pack would be ideal?

5: why is this game so much fun?

1. The timing structure of the game (see the FAQ for details, available in the support section of AGoT LCG site) allows for Ghost to save Jon Snow. Because it is a "save" response, it happens before characters are successfully killed.

2. The core rules clearly states: "You cannot claim more than one power per round in this manner."

3. Standing a character alone does not remove him from the challenge. Only a card effect that specifically removes a character from a challenge does so.

4. Second core set is probably the best and most balanced way to increase your card pool. After that, the house specific box expansion are the best way to boost particular houses: Lords of Winter, Kings of the Storm, the soon-to-be-released Queen of Dragons. They each give you 3x 55 cards and two deck lists that work with the expansion and core set only. There's also the Princes of the Sun and Kings of the Sea boxes, but Kings of the Sea will be released as a reprint later this year with 3 copies of each card instead of the current version with only 1 copy of each card, so it's worth to wait. Princes of the Sun will probably be reprinted at some point as well, but is still decent value at 2 copies per card in its current version.

A 2nd core set it one of the best purchases. Also check out this Getting Started with AGoT article on CardGameDB.com and this writeup by Grift on boardgamegeek for some more helpful information.
