Who all is going to Minnesota in April?

I have yet to see anything posted on these forums where someone doesn't take a least the slightest moment to *****.

I'd love to stop the trolling, but after looking at the Regionals thread I'm more tempted to laugh instead. I'm suspecting a foil version of a ShadoWar card or a promo that will be so underwhelming people are gonna complain more than if it had been any good.

No no no, even better. A promo that will come out 3 months down the line! That way EVERYONE can be unhappy!

Maybe we wouldn't keeping acting disappointed if FFG didn't keep disappointing us.

When the whole Path of the master was announced by STG it was stated that there would be an event in North America and another in Europe (probably the UK, but France and Spain were apparently being considered which whould have been cool too) and possibly one in Australia as well, I can't quite remember. Now that we get the final details there's one event in America and no mention of anything anywhere else.

For the people on that side of the pond, you've got what was initially promised. Yes, it sucks if you have to travel a long way for it but that's no more than was to be expected.

For those of us in Europe however, we're left feeling ignored again (look at the prize support supplied by FFG for the recent team and property nationals in the UK and a whole host of other examples). As I posted over on the UK forums (which you also took exception too), all it would have taken would have been one sentence to say that something was being considered for the rest of the world (even if there were no details yet), but we don't even get that.

Now it turns out that we should be getting an event in the UK after all. But that's not because FFG felt the need to uphold the promises made to us by STG, it's because Steve Graham (Tallgeese) browbeat them into it. Incidentally, the fact that the guy responsible for all the UK's tournament support is a volunteer also speaks volumes (thanks Steve).

So yes, people have a tendency to ***** about things when they're feeling let down. If people are bitching more recently then what does that tell you?

And I thought Canada had it bad. Grats on putting me in my place dude. Although there shouldn't have been, at all, any place-putting.

Just to clarify, I didn't take exception to what you posted. What I do see through these boards is rather then do something to fix the situation, people choose to come on here and *****. That's the extent. They'll just put up a post to complain, rather than taking the time to follow the proper channels and so. Apparently you already knew that Steve had contacted Paul, and that you guys were getting an event. So rather then complain that your event wasn't announced at the same time as everyone elses, you complained that you weren't getting an event. Keep in mind, the whole path of the master event was originally announced through the Sabertooth forums. It's not like there was actual published documentation for Jonathan Ledezma to take with him to FFG. Then after he quit, and a month later Paul Bromen had to pick up the pieces, it's not like he had a roadmap to follow. If he forgot something that two people prior to him, working for another company promised, and he was never informed of... I'm willing to forgive the guy.

Now about that "If people are bitching more recently"...

People aren't bitching any more now then they were two years ago.

They're bitching the same amount. What does that tell me? UFS players like to ***** about everything. There is no making them happy.

What I just get tired of is players ***** on the forums and then say "FFG isn't doing anything!" When FFG has said up front, "contact us directly."

When you contact them directly, they take care of stuff. I just see people holding FFG to an unrealistic standard, expecting them to be superhuman. They can't be. End of story.

Not that "OMG I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THEM!" more than "This just plain, well, sucks, y'know. What do I do with my patches since I know I won't be going?" If, indeed, this was the plan since the beginning (due to the whole "They'd have held this in Memphis" thing if STG had remained), then why bother sending them out? I can understand that an event going for a year yielded a lot of interesting thoughts, but seriously I can't be the only one feeling let down about this.

'sides, the playerbase over here (well, one guy) has asked me to e-mail Paul Bromen about stuff so I'll probably send him a polite e-mail soon with said question alongside the other thang.

I've seen people put them on their jackets. I've got a page in my binder where they're sitting.

It's something cool to talk about.

Thunder Castle Games who used to run Highlander would give you a different colored pin whether you finished first second or third. There were smaller pins for major events, and then larger pins for national and world championships. Unless you won the World Championship or a National Championship where you got a replica highlander katana, the pin was the only extra piece of prize support you received that was different then when you won a regular event.

At the time, the pins were something that people could use to brag about, show some pride about winning. It worked.

I don't see these patches being that much different.

I mean, they're free things that you got for playing in a special format tournament.

Speaking of putting them in places, René has a patch shirt.

OUAIIIIIS! need more random patches tough (well, new job will fix that)

for the free thing, it all depend of the tourney fee. :P and after few month i got bored of it, it was the only "special event" available. anyways, i know i'll get my playset (even if do not want/ask...)

To get back on topic here. I plan on going to this event, though I may need to find who else is going and try to share a hotel. That being said... so far the only thing FFG has mentioned regarding this event is a date, and location, which seemed like less of an announcment for the event and more a passing remark. So for now I have a wait and see attitude towards this. Untill FFG gives us a bit more information, its hard to plan.

I will also mention that the week they announced for this event in April happens to fall on the same Week as the GAMA Trade show in Las Vegas. GAMA is the yearly trade show for the hobby game industry when all the various manufacturers and Distributors meet with retailers/store owners and show off thier products/new products and announce new programs for the comming year. If the path of the master event is going to be held at FFG headquarters on the weekend of April 17th, then a good portion of the FFG staff will either not be present, or in transit from Vegas. (GAMA is April 14-17th and FFG usually has a large booth and 12-20 employees present thats a lot of people and stuff in transit). This also means for me at least that I may be traveling from VA to Vegas to MN then back home to VA for this event, so really I'm waiting for more details.

SO for everyone else, for now relax, untill FFG says more, we have very little to base our concers on. We need a little more wait and see and a little less complaining.

Could also be why they're doing it on that weekend - less people in the offices.

Yes I realize what I just wrote was extremely stupid.

I knew nothing of the sort, as you'd know if you actually read the posts you're responding to. I was one of the first to reply to Steve's post on the subject, as I knew that if anyone was going to contact Paul then Steve would be in the best position to do so. He took the issue to Paul and went to bat for us to get something (as yet unspecified) arranged. From past experience, a single message from someone Paul's more likely to listen to seems to work a lot better than a bunch of messages from random players/scouts (and I daresay is a lot less annoying for Paul as well).

The only things I've posted on the subject since then are on this topic in response to you.

Frankly, if people feel that they're being short changed by a company that we throw a great deal of money at then they've got a right to say so. If we didn't then nothing's going to get any better.

Unless of course you're telling us that these forums are just for us to sing FFG's praises all day long (if so, just let me know and I'll leave you in peace).

People have a right to complain. Where it becomes an issue is when people do nothing but complain, about every little thing. More often then not, people choose to do nothing but complain. It's gotten to the point where FFG has asked us to tone it down, and people are refusing to use the forums because of all of the overwhelming negativity. Hell I've got about a dozen players total. None of them want to use the forums because of the content that people tend to post.
Some stores have stated outright they don't want to get into UFS because they don't want to deal with the UFS player base, as they've depicted themselves on the forums. As someone who wants to change that culture, when I see people complaining, and doing nothing to fix the situation, I'm going to a) suggest how they can fix it b) challenge them to do something more then just complain.

Which as a player of UFS who wants to see this game grow, I figure is my right to do. Are things perfect? Not at all. Hell, we don't even have set 11 available for purchase because of shipping problems, and finally expect to receive our initial shipment tomorrow. (The product sent for pre-release covered the pre-release tournament and that way it.) However rather then come on the forums and complain about it, I've chosen to spend the time getting the issue resolved. I agree that one representative of the community contacting Paul is better then many. I just see far too often where no representative of a community choose to do anything.

So that aside... who else is going in April. I'm looking forward to a weekend of getting my UFS on!

For me its MORE reason to have concerns as it makes planning all the more difficult as you're now giving me doubts that this will even be the final date for it... ARGH!

Was in touch with Paul today:

  • Dates are April 17-19 <Not changing>
  • 1 Card per different patch. (So max 13 cards per person)
  • There will be NO redemption program. Be there, send your patches with someone who doesn't already have a full compliment of patches, or trade for the card after the event from people who were able to go.

Didn't post this because I wasn't sure if I could due to having, y'know, e-mailed Paul and having no permission to post anything happening in a private conversation.

Is there any more information regarding this event? Do we know what the prizes will be, what format it is(assuming block 3), and how much it will cost(assuming free)? These are all things that would like to see answered before I plan on attending this event as traveling, food, and lodging can be quite pricey.

Not to mention those people outside of North America. We do have patch winners in Europe too, although FFG seem to have forgotten this.

Pretty much anyone with no disposable income has patches that work just like the goggles. They do nothing.

MY EEEEYYYYESSSS!!! THE GOGGLES!!! THEY DO NOTHING!!!!

Unfortunately no. The only thing we know about prize support is that there is a special promo that will only be available at this event (you get one copy for each different copy of a seal patch you show up with and the winner gets the rest). Hopefully they get all the other info up soon as I'd like to go to this event too.

HEY LOOK AT ME, I'M ON TOPIC.

So who is all actually going to be up there and is willing to share a room? I know I am going to need one, so if you want to co-op, let me know.

I just might start a whole new thread because of how much tears are on this site.

Currently I'm driving down with 4 in my vehicle. Currently two of us are staying with a friend, and the other two are grabbing a hotel room, and the thought of splitting has already come up. I'll try to nudge them your way to figure stuff out. Ultimately we may be coming with two car loads. If we do, that may necessitate at least two hotel rooms.

In my quick googleing, I've found this hotel is the closest to FFG, but someone who is local can probably correct me:

Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Roseville
2905 Snelling Avenue North
Roseville, MN 55113
(651) 628-3500

It appears to be about 2 miles away, "3 minutes" by Google time.

There may be some of the Green Bay crew heading to this...I.E Jeff and I, so Nick if we end up going you have to come with us ;)

i'm going for sure, my mom gave me a voucher of sorts for the trip for this event as a xmas gift and thanks to having online classes i should be there all 3 days ^^

and since this event is happening a month after rotation i'm assuming it'll be block 3 >_>

Does anyone know what day the tournament will be on? I would have to take off work to go and i need to know in advance. I doubt the tournament will be three days. I just need more information to make plans to come. I live in Virginia and it is quite a trip for me. I have to work on the weekends. Any way if anyone can answer said questions I would appreciate it.
