lots of you asked for more options in filtering and this would be our next aim!!! Deck building is so a personal matter. When I make deck building i usually use only few filters so I missed ones I don't use by my fault. Now we are trying to cover all players need.
AGOTCards.org - opening site
A few more thoughts ;-)
Cards, once added, can be really hard to remove from the deck. Some cards have a little "x" right next to them in the upper left to the card, but other cards don't seem to have this, or the "x" appears over another card, so it can't be selected.
As you edit the deck, it would be great if it gave you a running tally for each section. For example, next to characters there could be a spot with a number like this: Characters - 30, or Characters (30). I love all the stats on the next page, but it would be nice to know section tallies.
second point (number type card) is already in working list.
related first point. The X not behaving well:
which browser? Whit "full view" broser or with browser sized?
thx for the help. You can also write me directly into the site. (Andrea Gualdoni) so I check more often the feedback ;-)
Browser: full screen and browser size. Both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.
thx. From now on I'll continue on the site pm side. thx again for support.
Really cool start. Great job Gualdo - you give a lot to the community so thanks!
We are preparing to start of the game in italian translated (core set and oltown cycle) so thx also to that there is great entusiasm in italy... next week we will go making a tourney in madrid (50+ players with also french players). We are seeing this site like a comunity. To have a place to be together... let's hope to reach our aim :-)
Thx for the kind words... keep on rocking!!!
Have you guys thought about maybe forming a single sourceforge site for the source to your 3 sites?
There is a point: in some ways we've sort of wasted some effort in redundancy. If we organized a lil more and the source was available then people that felt there was a need for a new feature could submit patches and people could log tickets.
I recommend using github or sourceforge.
( For example, I do have the source released to the ruby on rails site that never launched due to a lack of time and the resources to host it. One feature it had was a google like search bar for simple searches. It's BSD licensed so feel free to use that code.)
Thx for the suggestion... At the moment we have opened a mail address reachable from the site dedicated to ALL people that would like to cooperate to this project.
Db for all our sites is related to OCTGN2 file source so it is something in common. We just put the possibility to have multilanguage database so asked every comunity if they want to cooperate to send us their card translated we can submit all of them so a user from spain can deside with "which language" to read the site/cards.
So the project is opened, also because to coding all features we have in mind 2 persons are not enough :-)
As I'm getting more familiar with this site, it's awesome. Some of your improvements sound fantastic as well! I'm still having issues with certain aspects of it. I haven't read carefully through to see what other people suggested, but here's what would help me:
- I periodically have to re-login at times, even if I'm actively using the site. In fact, once I lost ~4 minutes worth of changes to a deck because the site kicked me out randomly. Other times, I can go for hours without having to login (the site works as designed). I haven't closed my browser or messed with cookies. I'm running Firefox, in case that helps.
- I also can't login with my Android (Froyo) phone, which is running the default web browser. When I click on the "login" button, nothing happens (no pop-up). Not sure if support for phones is a priority, but just thought I'd let you know.
Deckbuilder
- "Add a card" search should be more comrehensive. I would like to search by trait, STR, etc... basically, everything you have in the "card search" should also be in the deckbuilder "add a card" feature. (Also, is there a way to exclude CCG cards? If so, I can't figure it out, so it would be nice if that was more intuitive.)
- "Add a card" seems to create a large pop-up that requires me to make my Internet browser window very large. Otherwise, after I've searched for one card, I have to close the pop-up, then re-open it if I want to search again. (The query field is covered up by search results.)
- As others have mentioned, the card photos are too small, so that it is *very* difficult to see card text in the "Add a card" feature. I can read the description, but I can't see the cost/STR ratio, which is often what I'm looking for when I want to add a character.
- As someone else mentioned, it would be great if the program reported how many of each card type was in a deck...I have to keep counting the number of characters to get a total, which is annoying.
- When I click on a card, it takes me to the card page. The problem with that is that if I made changes to a deck, I lose all unsaved modifications. So I'm at a dilemma...I can't always read the card (because the image is too small), and if I click to go to the page, I lose the changes I just made. The result is that I have to constantly save the deck each time I want to check what a card does.
- I find the statistics somewhat confusing. For example, I'm not sure what "Average effective card cost" means. My deck has an "Average whole deck cost" of 1.22, which is clear, but the "average effective cost" is 3.48. What does that number mean? What does the "variable" mean in "Plots with variable income" and "Cards providing variable...?" What does "Deck global cost balance" mean?
I hope it doesn't sound like I dislike your site...I actually really like it. I'm just posting very candidly so that it's easier to figure out how to improve the site.
Nice work!
Thx for the feedback.
I reply point by point ;-)
Login issue.
The provider garantee us 2 hours session... as you noticed this is not true. We put in coding infinitive session blocked only by log out. This is not happening. Unfortunately is not by our side. It seems random and sometimes is annoying, sometimes I remain connected since 3 hours (as I'm doing right now). We contacted provider and in these days the situation is increasing. We wait other 15-21 days and if the host feeling is not well we will move to better Servers.
You are probably also noticing that timestamp of post are not correct. I send a message and system says it is done or "one hour ago" or "15 minutes ago". We coded with timezone consideration so also this point seems not due to our coding (also for this we are waiting server instructions).
Android issue. We will make some tests with my friend Android. I personally tested with IPAD and worked well. Only thing doesn't working (and most of you will say rightly: most important thing) is deck builder cause touch in add cards doesn't scroll.
At the moment we are not focusing on ti cause we want (naturally after having implemented ALL we have in mind in web site) to create an APP dedicated to mobiles. Unluckly we are only in 2 so if someone will join the project we will of course start the project "parallely" so it would take lesser time.
Deckbuilder
This is the part we are working more in these days and in 2 days we have improved it:
-adding LCG only filter so we avoid CCG cards (setted by default)
-increasing cards results maximum from 30 to 100 (our bandwitch will not agree, but in the case we will increase server power)
-adding modification of deck name and deck description. (at the moment there is a glitch if you the '.' in description of the deck but we are solving it today/tomorrow)
related to your points:
-ALL filters will be added very soon
-card type counting is a priority so also this feature will be added soon (bad me in testing haven't found this issue)
-we will focus on making add card window like the user want cause it is the focus of the site. I think there is already a larger window (noticed only now). I will forward the "problem" of image too small. We will think if it is better enlarge image or add STR, COST, ICONS in the text.
-STATISTICS at the moment are being left a little bit behind. After resolving deck builderand main features site. I will post formula we are using so we can speack about What is needed and what not... for example we received some statistical quadratic forumla from spanish that "describe" normal setup and so on. We will discuss so which indicator are "wanted" and what are useless.
ciao and thx for the feedback. I come back working in this saturday night ;-) Television is showing "Forrest Gump" and I remember my summer on California... Santa monica and the Bubba Gump restaurant :-(
Last things.
1-To avoid loosing data in deck builder there is the autosaving of the deck running i think every 30 seconds. This should avoid lost of data by annoying disconnection.
2-to all people that maybe see something wrong. To be sure, delete cache and cookies cause every day we make some update in javascript so cookies can prevent site working well.
Wow, that sounds great! Thanks Gualdo...as always, you are on top of the issues before I even know they're there.
All the order of things makes sense, and I assumed you would work out a priority like this. Again, don't think I dislike your site...I think it's awesome. The only reason I critique is that I think it has great potential
Don't worry... critics are welcomed... most of all for a site that has 4 days of life :-)
i have to say, this site is pretty awesome

Gualdo, just a thought: check the session regeneration during ajax (might be a race condition).
Thx for the suggestion, we will monitoring this issue.
DECK BUILDER Issue: some improvement made:
1-added in add cards window information about cost, str, icon for each cards (coming during this WE also house and unicity)
Cards:
-changed background color for sets CCG and LCG to avoid confusion

Thx Erick, this is much appreaciated!!!
I had another thought for improvement on the individual card (non-deckbuilding version of the site).
One of the things I loved about the old tzumainn site was that people would post rules questions in the comment section of the cards. It would be cool if you could create either a sub-section of the comments, or a way to denote a post as a rules question. Then have it appear on the dashboard as a rules question (instead of a general comment), so others could jump in and help.
I know I'm constantly forgetting rules related to certain cards, and having a feature directly linked to the cards would be amazing.
For example (so you know what I mean):
Ellaria Sand
1. Card text
2. Card picture
3. Comment section:
Gualdo: Ellaria is awesome! She is sooo good looking!
4. Rules Comment section:
Jmccarthy: Does Ellaria take power before or after my opponent takes renown? Or can I choose?
Ktom: Witty remark about Ellaria's good looks vis a vis the rules that apply to her, along with comprehensive ruling.
5. Any official errata.
Just my two cents. Your site is amazing so far... just trying to help!
This can be absolutely a great feature. Section about Faq are already in place. This feature about "ruling" can be studied. Certainly we will not give highest priority cause we have already a list full of things to do, but I write this on "medium priority" requests.
Three things (which should be tested in OCTGN)... but I think the OCTGN client won't care.
1. Collector Number.
2. Errata (as a seperate piece from the original text).
3. Reprint data (can be seperate from octgn stuff). I dislike it when I say type Balon Greyjoy and get each printing of him, I'd rather only get each unique version of him.
Gualdo if you guys put the source on sourceforge or github or google code or something, I can then check out the code, make a branch with some of these changes so you guys can check it out and merge if you want to. If you need help in setting that up email me.
(FYI: I have 5 years of experience as a release engineer, and can program in C, Perl, Ruby, Lisp, Cocoa, HTML and Java (among other languages)... don't know javascript that well OTOH.)
Errata is already in place. If people hasn't noticed it means probably is not so visible, but the information is recorded, we will think about showing it better (now is on Knowledge base and FAQS section inside card).
Reprint data and collector number are k for me. I sign the request.
About collaborating I kindly ask you and people that would like to join to send a message inside the site to Andrea Coronese (or give me your mail privately at [email protected] so I can forward your data. As said all contributions are welcomed. The site is 99% Jquery. Speaking with Andrea he can be far more precise than me (that i manage only DB).
ciau
I was reviewing the DB. I have the field about collector number that I left blanck cause I thought nobody would catch me on fault ;-)
About request of Reprinted "not to be shown" double times, there is a list of these? Can I use the list on NY agot player sites? So in case of Core Set card equal to CCG ones in search we filter the result only on LCG ones?
This is enough or there is something else to do? (sorry but I never played CCG so I don't know exactly how reprint was managed those days)

I have just tested with Android 2.1 standard browser and it works well. Unluckly at the moment I don't have any device 2.2 to test it. I will ask in other office at lunch.
