AGOTCards.org - opening site

By Gualdo, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Dear all,

yesterday night we realeased a site we are working since July. The site is in continuous developement and new features will be realased soon.

The site allows players to:

-make access to the whole AGOT database (LCG - CCG --> Promo will be listed soon --> if somebody has scan can send them to me at [email protected])

-deckbuilding with STATS and export in OCTGN2 (in the next weeks will be released a feature that allow users to "import" deck from OCTGN2)

-comunity features to interact with rating, decks, comments, ecc

-the system can handle multilanguage cards. Default is english but if someone is interested we can send them test to translate so each user can set his preferred language and see cards in the language he desire.

Hope you will enjoy it.

Finally the time has come! A W E S O ME ! And more still to come!

The site is pretty slick. The card archive is very comprehensive, though the I feel the overview of a particular box/chapter pack could be improved (card type too disconnected from card title, no hover function). I don't like the deck builder in its current implentation for various reasons (made a comment on your website).

I do like that you can comment on individual cards and rate them.

Overall, the site feels a bit gimmicky, but it has potential. I'm gonna stick with cardgamedb.com for my deck building needs, though.

(Also, I'm not a fan of the registration process user pic mandatory? or the fact that you need to register to see the site at all).

I don't know what's the purpose of dashboard, threads and follow, maybe because I don't use Facebook. But that's not important. What I think is important, that the CCG cards are presented like current - I believe it's wrong.

Awesome site! Thank you so much!

*Sorry, double post.

Thx for all the feedbacks. Each week we wil put new features on the site and of course card visualisation one is one of the first.

First of all we are planning visualisazion of entire set (and not only cp by cp). Now the visualisation is divided per houses. We waited your feedback to know if you suggest other kinds of visualisations.

Of course we will find a way to separate CCG cards to LCG ones. At the moment you can filter them in the static seach, meanwhile in the quick search and deck builder search at top are displayed LCG cards.

Related to the differentiation between dashboard, People and My Threads, this is a lot twit and facebook like. In dashboard you see the complete card board taht you can filter by user or topic. In People you see writing only for the people "you follow". In My threads you see only discussion you are following.

Anyway also in this case we will collect feedback to add sections and maybe remove ones not needed.

Comment and rating of decks is up to come. Same for Events section and articles one. And much more. We are planning updates for all the year so far.

Related to question about hover functions on images and similar, for the first month we are monitoring traffic of the site. Cause we have limited traffic band and hover functions related to HQ images "costs". So after one month we would make some statistics to see if we have to change provider or not (depending on the use of the site).

Thanks Gualdo, this is awesome!

One request though: Is there a way to list only my username? I don't like how the system lists my full first/last name for other people to see. I would much prefer a setting that allows me to list only my first name and/or username.

Thank you!

I thought the same today when reading my full name ;-)

I think this is not a difficult release so in the future bug fixing/updating process should be available.

The site looks very good so far.

Love to have a site again where you can rate the cards.

The site has real potential.

A few remarks/wishes concerning the deck builder:

1) You can't unpublished/published decks (you should at least be able to the unpublished ones)

2) You can't edit the description of your deck after creating it

3) Everything gets changed to lowercase, except for the very first letter. Why do you hate uppercase? gui%C3%B1o.gif

I don't get it. What's the purpose of yet another site when we already have cardgamedb.com for our card database, images, and deck building needs, and FFG (here) AND Boardgamegeek.com (BGG) for for game news and forums!?

It's bad enough I have to jump around 3 different sites for one game, I certainly don't need a 4th. I'm not trying to be critical, and I am sure your site is nice and pretty and all, but I just don't see a need for it, at least not for me anyways.

Welcome to the internet. There's plenty of sites for most every topic. Just use the ones you like, as you do with every other kind of website you visit.

@Jeko

Thx for the feedback and kind words... we will try to improve at each release...

about your points:

1- maybe I didn't understood the problem. I tried to unpublish and republish my deck and found no problem. remember that after unpublishing a deck you cannot find it anymore under GLOBAL DECKS section cause now is private so you find it only under your profile.

2- this is already planned for next release

3-I don't hate uppercase... maybe the programmer hates it (i'm the database management guy)... I will ask him ;-)

Thx again... ENJOY!

We didn't wanted to make you angry ;-)

Anyway as already told if you don't want to use a site it is not mandatory!!!. We started working on this one last july (as wrote in the FFG forum last summer). So before cardgamedb was released.

Both Dobbler and Darksbane use my octgn2 database to populate the site and it is not a problem for me (I asked Darksbane to use its images > we put credits in the disclaimer and Dobbler asked me to use my db for its site and I agreed).

This just to let you know that "there is not a rat race". Simply I loved dobbler immediately search (and I'll continue to use it) and cardgamedb images. We didn't like deckbuilder already available and navigability so we made something different. We wanted a comunity site not in the form of the "old" forum. If you like it we will be glad if not it is ok anyway.

just Enjoy if you like ;-)

I really love the site. Thanks Gualdo! I'll definitely use it.

Thx a lot. Feel free to post suggestions, bug, Wishlist on the "Contact us" mail linked on the site ;-)

Well, the thing is that I started a deck to see how the deckbuilder works. And instead of being able to completely it afterwards, it will now stay forever in my unpublished decklist.

For the card list:

- Herald of Storms End: wrong picture

- Core Set Aegon's Garden & Great Hall: wrong pictures

thx,

images pic wrong solved

Related to the deck. Are you saying you are not able to edit the decks after first saving entering it in a second time? The button is not yet in place (but already planned). Seems strange this thing about "not being able to edit the deck after having saved it". If you confirm me this is the problem I will check it deeply.

Ok, I think I found out why you didn't understood me.

Seems like this forum software doesn't seem to like the word "d.e.l.e.t.e".

So I'm saying that i'm unable to d.e.l.e.t.e my own decks.

k now i understood. The function is up to next release.

In this moment we are updating some bug fix related to decks:

1- now selecting house card is enought to determinate house of the decks (it sounds stupid but it wasn't due to octgn2 compatibility but now we managed to eliminate down list)

2- we are correcting view all decks view that now shows only stark.

@Jekothalep: Added DELETE DECK function.

You can see this button in the top right corner of the deck visualization.

Do you guys have/have any plans on implementing some kind of API to the card database? I'd really like to recreate the AGoT card duel that Tzu-Mainn had a long time ago, but I don't really want to roll my own fully fleshed out card database.

Anyway, cool site, and I'm eager to see how you guys expand it!

would be great to recreate that feature. At the moment we are only one programmer and one database manager (me). We are recruiting people that wants to collaborate (taht will appear on credits of course). If you wanna cooperate, also for some feature will be great.

Our plans are:

in a short time:

stabilize the site, bug fix, increase cards visualisation with suggestions received.. We already saw that our bandwithc (20 gb per month) cannot remain cause we have in one day 150 users using the site so the first day we created 600 mb traffic. Maybe it is only the first day so we wait some week and in the case we need we will change to a better host.

in medium time:

add promo (if someone can scan me old promo and send to me would be great)

add fan cards (we are already working on this and I'm creating the first Spanish CP > they are great and created great cards)

add articles section, be able to rate comment decks, import deck from OCTNG2 (not only export like now).

in long time:

implement events section with possibility for users to tourney by TO users and implement a ranking system (we are speaking with erick and jonhatan for this feature).

These seems only few points but I already collected 2 pages of word full of suggestions so we hope to implement them ASAP.

Great site, loving it so far, especially the deckbuilder and facebook-style feel. My one request would be for more search features once inside the deckbuilder. I'm finding it hard to search for cards with less options, but by being limited to 30 results. For example, I want a 3str Mil Pow character, but don't get any results older than KLE...

Overall though, its a huge step forward for the AGOT community.
