Custom weapon creation

Wouldn't it be far, far easier to manufacture an actual powersword than an article that covers the teeth individually?

To me the concept seems to want the best of both worlds: Desiring the chainsword's enhanced damage potential, with the powersword's advantage of the powerfield. A bit like wanting a sportscar that seats 7. Sometimes there's a choice to be made.

Hence the whole "personalised/signature weapon" idea (one of a kind tailored to marine) including use of wargear talent (500xp) to aquire it.

Also, not heard of the ferrari limo? seats 6 or 7 if i remember cool.gif

I didn't see any mention of Tearing anywhere above... a power chainsword with Power Field and Tearing would be pretty savage. Personally, I'd be OK with it, but not as something tinkered or built by the kill-team's techmarine in his spare time. If a player wanted something like that, I'd discuss it with the GM, and then maybe it could be recovered from the vaults or put into a mission as a lost Chapter relic, etc. A very distinct or unique weapon like that should have a cool background and memorable means of acquisition, I think.

...And corners like an American car. Just to prove that the best of both worlds is usually the worst.

If we're talking a relic here, then isn't that exactly what the Frostblade is?

The base level wargear talent is 20 req worth of stuff, isn't it? A 'normal' powersword is 20.

If the powerfield were slightly weaker and tied to the blades rather than the shaft then it would be tearing but the Powerfields overall effect would be weaker that a Powerswords (hence my idea for same base damage as chainsword but with better Pen).

As it's statistically weaker than a Powersword it would in no way qualify as a relic.

Isn't a chainsword + power field a Chainfist, albeit mounted differently? If it's not some relic or other?

Nope, a Chainfist is a Powerfist with chain attachment.

Well larger chainfists such as on dreadnoughts don't have the fist bit at all and the on the oldest designs of of terminators they didn't have the larger gloves at all.
