Street Fighter License

By DrUnK3n_PaNdA, in UFS General Discussion

For all those players who say things like "If UFS isn't going to stay loyal to SF, then I won't play UFS" and the like, I apologise, but thats very fickle behaviour. Do you all stop playing the game for 3 months when an SF set isn't released that time? When Set 10 came out, did people just stop playing because Street Fighter wasn't in it? The Street Fighter card haven't suddenly become illegal, just play with what you do have!

If you want to play Street Fighter, go and play the computer game, as far as I'm aware, it hasn't disappeared anywhere, so it's still there to play. But we're all playing UFS, the game where LOTS OF DIFFERENT GAMES are part of the same game. Soul Calibur actually brought me into this game above Street Fighter. I loved Street Fighter as much as the next guy, but I adored Calibur. Can't you guys just enjoy what you are given instead of all this 'grass is greener on the other side' rubbish? Nowadays I actually prefer Street Fighter, but there are 9 sets out of 11 that have SF on their cards. The next best thing is Calibur with 6 and only one of those is currently legal. Everyone from the original SF roster is in a currently legal format bar Dee Jay along with a plethora of Alpha and 3rd Strike characters? Who else can you possibly still be after? I know I'd quite like to see a legal Cassanda, or Xianghua or even Astaroth, and I can't stand Astaroth!

I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but I'd never played King Of Fighters or Samurai Shodown before SNK01 came out, and now I love it as much as the other fighters out there. Open your minds guys, you'll enjoy yourself a hell of a lot more that way. Thats probably why they release two sets at a time for UFS. I dread to think what people would be like if they only released one big one...

Samurai Shodown Anthology is coming to NA in... February is it? Hells yea.

I hate Soul Calibur and all of its games, they are not good, the game engine is awful and they aren't any fun. To that end, I do not buy boxes or even packs of SC or any of the licenses I do not like. I buy singles from eBay or CoolStuff, but I still play the game.

You are of course entitled to your opinion even if it's wrong. Soul Calibur has far more depth and tactics in it then SF does. Just because it requires more skill to play well doesn't means it's not a good game. I'm betting you had a bad experiance, running up against someone who really knew their stuff and lost over and over. Unfortunatly unless you're playing maxi you can't really button mash your way to victory in SC, at least not as easily as you can in SF. Of course, SC doesn't hold a candle to Virtua Fighter in terms of gameplay depth, but that's a whole other can of worms.

To those of you who are complaining that people were whining about the lack of of SC ... know that it's not the same people who are now whining about the rumoured disappearance of SF. Some people like SF. Some like SC. Some people it's Darkstalkers that gets them excited, or even Penny Arcade. For me it was PA primarily and SC second that got me into the game. I was super excited when I found out that SS was being added to the roster. My play group has people who play (or played) who were brought in by pretty much every license. TBH all of the licenses should get about equal love. Streetfighter has been getting the most love, with KOF and Darkstalkers left in the dust... but it certainly feels like SC has been a bit neglected of late. It'd be nice if we eventually got to the point where all licenses had an equal number of sets in rotation. And better yet if the "latest two" sets from each license were "standard" legal, and everything older was Legacy. If they did that they could dispense w/ the shurikan watermarks.

Watermarks are a better idea, when you think about it, because they cut down on the "memory" involved.

The only complication is reprints, which is a factor if and only if players use the old prints, but it's a factor without watermarks as well.

Actually, that statement is pretty much wrong, depending which game in the franchise we're talking about. Saying the later SC have more depth and tactics than, say SF1 really isn't much of a debate. Starting from ST onward, debate is on.

Ok lets all just calm down already this is turning into a flame war. Like many people have said some people prefer SC others prefer SF. I myself got into this game solely for SC and im sure someone got into this game for SF. For those that say that SC or SF sucks I pity you cause all you are doing is making yourselves look like jerks. Now if we can drop the wars lets get back on the subject.

SF is not leaving UFS its not going anywhere. Its one of the best things UFS has. UFS is what really introduced me to SF hell I didnt even know who Akuma was before I really got into this game. SF is just taking a break but that doesnt mean you can play SF you still have your Sakura that kicks @%@ and your bazzilion Ryu's and Chun lee's. Zangief just got another promo and its frigging awesome. SF is prolly the most babied set in UFS right now imo. So relax ok guys good grief I havent had a new Tira in a good long while or a Nightmare for that matter. In the next set they are both going to be in it cant you guys just give them a chance? Sheesh >.>

Yah.

I'll just be glad if they release another Asty-poo or Rock, myself. I honestly doubt it, because the axe-wielding monstrosities tend to not be popular (what with Rock sucking ever since SC... goddamnit Namco).

Still, I'll be glad to have a legal SC character that I play in the fugging game. Which means I have hope for the remaining six.

That is... So many kinds of lame. We lose Street Fighter for a year and get a license no one seems to have wanted in the first place to replace it.

At least Soul Calibur has some of the best promos in the game, ones you see in **** near every deck. There had better be a metric ton of Street Fighter promo foundations and characters printed and released immediately before the license expires or I'm out. This is the most pathetic move on FFG's part since Shadowar. If they wanted to kill the game they could've just stopped printing it instead of trying to wring every bit of money they could out of the few truely loyal fans that they have first.

I started playing the game for Street Fighter. And now FFG has decided that I get to have one sub-par version of my favorite character and no new cards from my favorite license for a year. Awesome. Way to go FFG. It's so extremely sad that you're throwing UFS aside. It had a great system and great potential and now it's in all likelyhood going to die because you're too cheap to promote it and buy licenses, the later of which is the entire attraction to the game. Licensed. Characters. Not original generic-asian fantasy characters.

Promo SF characters will probably still see release over the next year, in the same way that Soul Calibur promos did (admittedly, and in my opinion, unfortunately, they weren't characters though), but do you really not like any of the other fighting games in UFS? I mean, there must still be something for you to look forward to. I'm as unkeen on Shadowar as you are, but I'll probably still end up buying a bit of it because it'll have cards to forward my gameplay, I just won;t play the characters involved. I think it's kind of a fun idea to think that Karin could hold a dirty great spear like Yi Shan's or the Soul Edge. Crossovers are great anyway, and Street Fighter IS 3 sets ahead of everything else. Think of how people who aren't so keen on SF (yes, they do exist :P ) feel about this as opposed to having an SF set almost every set? They're probably relieved. Just play your favourite character from SF with cards that don't belong to them. I'm sure you've probably been doing that for the whole time you've been playing the game anyway, it shouldn't make that much of a difference. Besides, there are very few characters for SF left to release. I'm sure you'd rather the franchise was kept fresh rather than stagnate it before the year ends, right? :)

Nah, I don't think it's a flame war at all. So far the only person who's claimed any of the licenses suck is Ender. And that's about the most vitriolic comment we've had up to this point.

Alright I don't know how these type of things get started but STREET FIGHTER IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE!!! Calm down everyone. Why do people believe every **** rumor the hear without any kind of official confirmation? Here is what I said at Gen Con and a few other places: Street Fighter will take a bit of a rest after set 11, as it has been the most released property so far. Now to add to that here is something official:

Street Fighter will make an appearance in 2009!

There you go, please stop believing hearsay and rumors, if there is not an official statement than it is not true.

See you in the arena,

Steve

Can someone lock this thread now?

But Steve, don't you know rumors make the world go round?

I just came in here to say hi. I'm one of the few people who came into the game only because of the promise of SNK sets. Couldn't care less for Street Fighter or Soul Calibur or Darkstalkers.

But I buy from all of them. Just more from SNK :)

i've probably played sc 20 times, SF 30 times and none of the other games at all. i play UFS becuase it's awesome, not becuase i play the videogames it's designed off. i just want good cards. i don't care if they are sf,sc,sw,ds,ss, or kof.
