Whe want to start playing the game, but dont know what to buy, we are 6 people, help!

By dosan, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

My group of longtime roleplayers want to change and play WArhammer fantasy roleplay 3rd edition, but we dont know what to buy, it is still worth to buy the core set, or it is better to buy the guides and vaults? We want to play with the components.

Also, does anybody knows of good offers or places where to buy the game right now, so we can save more money and buy more ? Thanks pals! Really , i dont know too well the diferrences between the vaults and guides, compared to the core set, they say that the vaoults and guides have all the things of the core set and more. Only thing is i love the way the core set looks! :) , but for the sake of having the most updated and complete experience, i can change to the other formats

i would go with the core set over all is much cheaper and you can start right away. the creature vault and guide are good buys and have lost of stuff the core set dose not have.

amazon.com is a good place to buy most things are around 25% to 30% off

have fun....

Get the core set you wont regret it. 50 quid on amazon I belive.

For 6 players a few extra basic action cards and dice would be needed, so adventures toolkit and players vault I belive may be your next stop.

Yeah core set is the best to begin with but you won't have enough stuff for 6 players (or is it 5 players + 1 DM?)

+ the adventurer's toolkit (with enough basic cards for another player and more basic career) and probably the player vault and another set of dices

i have a doubt: the core set = player guide + player vault? I dont understand much about the logic of the vaults and the guides, i even read that some mistakes were corrected in the guides and vaults, like for example spears, that now i believe are better. If i buy the core set, why i should buy the vaults or guides? i am interested in them, but, as i see, why to buy it, if the core set have all or at least 80 percent of what they offer? Or am i wrong? It is really worth it to invest in that books and vaults too? Only thing i understand is that they exist for players that want to to play just with books, or with the cards , etc? I love but styles, so, this products are for me?

Also, my group is 6 players + a DM, so, what other things should i buy for been able to support all?

Thanks again! I really want to understand the difference of the core set vs the vault and guides, i dont grasp it completely :(

The Core set is "basically" Player guide + Player Vault and GM guide + Gm Vault, it's a little more complicated then that, but that's pretty much it. From what I understand the GM vault has less dice than the Core Set so really, the best buy to begin with is the Core set. So if you get the Core set, forget the Player and GM guide/vault

Now with 6 players, you will probably need more dices than what the Core set has so maybe you could buy an extra set or 2 and you could cover everyone's basic action by printing this 6 time: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/wfrp/support/players-guide/wfrp-basic-action-reference.pdf

The Adventurer's toolkit would be a good buy too so you get more career options for that many players

For a group of 6 looking to use components, I'd recommend the following:

I'd go with two core boxes to start with. Between the two boxes, you will get a TON of dice, two sets of rules and doubles of everything else. This will easily accommodate 6 players, with each having their own set of basic action cards (with a shared pool for the group consisting of two each of the skills and talent card sets.)

I'm pretty sure you can still find the core box online for $66.00. I'd also recommend each player get their own copy of the rules via a Player's Guide (or snag the extra set of rules from the 2nd boxed set.) The player vaults would be unnecessary if you head down this path, since your core box sets will have enough for everyone in the group.

After that, I'd suggest the following for expansion:

The Adventurer's Toolkit adds 10 more careers to add a bit more variety to the game. I believe you can get that for $29.95 or less online.

The Monster guide and Monster Vault will greatly increase the variety of beasts and adversaries in your game as well, although the core box sets come with a good sampling of monsters to start with.

Good luck to you and your group!

Core set plus one players guide would be a brilliant way to move forward.

We are 7 in my group ( me as GM + 6 players). We have the Core Set and the The Adventurer's Toolkit besides some expansions. We have basic cards for 4 players, but we share them when someone needs them.

Also a group of six, for basics and NOT playing lite system you will want the core plus, the players vault this also means to people can have or go thru the same career without any trouble.. extra dice set or two will be helpful but not essential.

As for extras I have all the expansions so couldnt comment one hundred percent but winds of magic, and signs of faith are the top on in my opinion, players toolkit, is nice, any of the Dms stuff plus beastry also very good even if the later is disorganised, for writing your own stuff and doing interlude adventures.. For adventures I would say the gathering storm is the best welcome to the warhammer world, the witchs songs has the setting sorted best, and the Edge of Night has ubseriek covered which is EXTREMELY usefull..

It all depends if your group splits to cost of stuff youll be able to get pretty much everything if you all chip in about fifty pounds sterling, less if you shop around on ebay/amazon and hunt for bargins, but if you like me and buy everything as a dm kicking out over three hundred quid in one jump is quite alot. (Unless of course you play wfb, in which case its about the normal for getting a new army started..lol.)

Hope that helps.Crimsonsun

Thanks to all for your kind help, and especially to you Crimsonsun. What you say is that i only need the core set, and the player vault, and with that i can play with 6 players? I like the idea, really i thought that the guides and vaults were a new kind of rerelease, superior to the core set, but everyone says that core set is the best. My only concern is that it seems heavily errated, and maybe the guides and vaults are better in that sense, but apart from that, i believe you are right. one question, what is the DM guide and vault use ? Because it seems that all that is covered by the core set. I saw the "small but vicious " seminar, and i saw that they mentione having more scenario cards, or something like that, it is really true? Or that scenario cards are also in other expansions?

Frankly , i am a Arkham Horror player that also is a DM from Dark Heresy and World of Darkness, and i want to taste this system, it seems so nice and especially, with graphics. Tell me, does the objects in game has cards with art too? I ask because really hope that all the cards have art, just a thought

Actually from the new erreta/FAQ that FFG just released, the Player guide has more errors than the Core set...

1- coreset (60$ amazon)

2- winds of magic + sign of faith to get the whole colours and gods cards + diseases and mutation cards (40+40$)

3- adventurer toolkit to get the 10 uber careers, a set of basic cards (share them or Print a basic cards sheet for all) + the Nice box. (20$)

5- the demo, the adventure from corebox. (Free)

6- buy adventure suppléments like gathering storm, edge of the night, witch song. (30 to 40$ each)

7- finally when you are comfortable with the game, consider the creature's VAULT to get monster stat cards and monster action cards of old and news creatures (50$)

do not buy anything. wait until they will release proper version of their books
