Need a Big Bad that eats Psykers

By Agmar_Strick, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

I've got the plot and conspiracy all worked out for my current adventure, I just can't figure out what exactly the Big Bad should be. It does however have the following properties.

  • Eats, uses, teleports, whatever, human psykers. Requiring several each day for its 'needs'

  • Has corrupted and insinuated itself into the ruling classes of a hive world

  • was attracted here by the slaughter of a several million mutants in pogroms about 50 years ago

  • Unless the Acolytes uncover the conspiracy are defeat it, 'Terrible things will happen' Probably resulting in the destruction of the entire hive.

Apart from that it could be anything, although the daemonic is an obvious choice, it could also be Xenos, corrupt human agents of some description, a Chaos marine, whatever. I’m thinking that this thing is somehow absorbing the psychic energy of the psykers it consumes, perhaps a Sorcerer? or maybe its part of some ritual. Whatever it is, it should require serious Inquisitorial resources to overcome. Any thoughts?

If anyone is ‘in the know’ this being will not need to be faced until well after Creatures anathema is released, should I be patient?

sorry about the bodgy looking text, can't edit post. grumble grumble...

Go for the good old Tzeentch sorcerer

Ditto, though what should happen if they fail, i can't get. What things should happen if they fail? The entire world sucubs to a soul vortex??

OOO there is a great nemisis in DoDG... A physic vampire... They are super nasty and very very courrpt. I can't wait to throw one at my players

Here is what I see. Your big bad is a special mutant, an Untouchable, but one wherein the unique psychic (or anti-psychic if you see it that way) capabilities are cranked up to the extreme. He doesn't just cancel out local psyker activity, he actively drains psykers of their essence, and must do so to maintain his health. His own abilities are interfering with his life processes. If he doesn't feed his psychic void he dies. He is a psychic black hole, and he will soon reach critical mass. If he is not uncovered and put down, his void will grow until it becomes too big to contain. His body and mind will rupture, pulling him into nothingness and absorbing all psychic and warp energy in his immediate area. But as the void feeds it will grow. Soon all such energy in the hive-city will be drained, then the planet, then the system. In a matter of hours every psyker or warp aligned being in the solar system will be dead. All astropathic transmissions will be blocked, and warp travel into or out of the system will be impossible. Cut off from the Imperium, the hive world will be unable to acquire much needed resources, such as food and unpolluted water. The economy will collapse as there will be no off world trade. Civilization will rapidly deteriorate, and the acolytes will be in the middle of it.

A very good one, me thinks!

My approach would be a little more old-fashioned: the "big bad" is a leader of a cult consisting of debauched nobles. They make deals with demons to further their own power. The daemon they serve demands a lot of human sacrifices and some psykers each week for a special bargain made. If the psykers are not handed, the bargain fails.

As the uprising took place, the cult saw a good chance to descretly harvest victims, since the imperium does not care for missing mutants. And when there is a large mutant population, there is a good chance for some unawakend psykers between them. Perhabs even some "rouge". So the cult started operating there.
Now, due to some benefits gained to dark pacts and political manouvering, the cult has members in the high ranking society of said hive.

If the cult is not stopped, the ritual sacrifice of psykers will sooner or later weaken the barrier between real space and the warp to call forth the daemon to this planet, allowing him to turn it into a daemon world through infestation.

To give it a special qualitity, one of the fronts of the cult is that of an anti-mutant imperial (!) death cult, acting out "his holy wrath" against mutants and wytches. To fringe members might not know a thing about daemon sacrifice, but the inner circles does.

Suggestions for the cults name: "Circle of Dignity". The front-reason for the name is: it is the dignity of men to cull the mutants and to ensure that the wytch is not allowed to live. The real reason is, of course, that all of the inner circles members binding dignity towards their daemon master:
By the way: the inner circle REALLY sees "those mutant scum" as something inferiors, while there (seldom) marks are "gifts on their own way of trancendence to daemonhood".

Thanks for your input guys!

I think I'm going to use elements of Attila-IV's concept, although I think I might make it some kind of psychic parasite, kinda like a psychenuien, which is forcing the psyker to consume the living brains for the psychic energy, its building up a nice big 'nest', so the psyker is bloated with psychic energy, after a goodly amount of time, the nest in the psyker's soul exlodes releasing the warp-parasites young, scattering them int the warp. Of course, head-explodey psyker with more warp-energy than he can handle is bad news. I'm thinking its sends everyone in 100km or so into a homicidal rage. Or may-be it just exlodes, or tears a hole in reality. Or maybe all of them!

I'll post the details of the creature when I'm done if you want.

Need a Big Bad that eats Psykers .... that would be the emperor, wouldn't He?

And any Chaosgod :D

I wouldn't go for an sect, it's just too "normal" and the psychenuien would also be a bit too old fashioned

Some kind of highly pro-Emperor Cleric might be a possible big bad, with his belief in having to clean the hive of mutants(exspecially Psykers) this person might have started to kill everyone who he believes to be one of those "evil" beeings.

The reason, why he hates Psykers so much and why he can find them among all those mutants is, that he has been blessed with annother Sense, probably relating to a minor psychic ability of his own and suspects that this ability has given him the curse of beeing a Psyker.

To find Forgiveness(does this word exist?), he tries to root out every last one of those beeings, not knowing, that his own powers grow with every Soul he divides from his victims Body and devours afterwards(without noticing).

He also is the one to ask for help at first, since he feels a stronger psycic power developing in the city, a creature of evil in his opinion, not noticing, that he only feels his own soul.

He doesn't really do something against the emperor or the work of the Inquisition, so that The Characters might get punished to kill him.

Additionally as this would normally take place in a Hive City, there would be to many souls to find the Psyker among them with "magical" Abilities, so that the Characters will need to use more mudane ways to find out, who this thread is.

Might also be a bit to old fashioned, but it's the first thing that comes to my mind
