Patrol Wagon and trading equipement

By Advosan, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

The PW has a "teleport" effect on your movement, so you don 't have to actually move through the streets and evade monsters. This raises some questions though:

1) Except from my starting and ending location, can I trade equipement with others in other locations? I ruled no, but it is a bit inconsistent with the whole point of the PW. I can walk from A to C and trade midway at B, but I cannot drive from A to C and trade midway at B?? Can I then just move normally, using speed points, and trade? In this case, am I driving the PW slowly, or am I pushing it?

2) Do I still get movement points equal to my speed? I ruled yes. You can read the "King in Yellow" in your PW while waiting for that traffic light to turn green I suppose.

3) Can I trade the PW itself to another investigator? I ruled no. The PW was assigned to you and you alone. Public servants using public resources for private business make me sick!

What do you think? How do you rule the PW?

1. Unfortunately, you're pushing it. Mechanically, you are teleporting; thematically...it's the Arkham Horror Patrol Wagon. It only has one speed: OVERDRIVE!!!

2. I would like to agree with you...but no, I think they ruled that out. (Really? You're just gonna pop the Necronomicon open at Sixth and Main like it was a dime-store pulp novel? "Whatcha got there, chief? AAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!")

3. Again, I would love to agree with you--it would make the Patrol Wagon extra special--but no, they ruled that not only can the Wagon be traded, but it counts as an item for purposes of losing half your items when unconscious or insane.

jggt7771,

I'm with you for #s 1 and 3, but why exactly can't someone use a Tome...?

The Professor

Oh, I don't remember...someone made a thing about "Instead of your normal movement" to include "Speed = Movement Points"...or something...and I thought it was adopted...sorry, let me look at the new FAQ...oh, wait, I CAN'T.

Agree on all points JGT. You can't have your cake and eat it too ^_^

So it's a teleport (though you can trade before or after VROOOM-ing. You do not receive movement points if you use the wagon (and if you use any movement points before using the wagon, you cannot use the wagon afterward). And thirdly, you can just toss your keys to someone and give 'em the wagon (the rulebook even calls it an Item, which means it can be traded. Same with the Revolver).

So try not to question rules for theme, because then things get murky (and I might have to make you feel foolish by making the theme fit the rules!)
