GMing Blood Drinkers and the worst kept secret ever

By HappyDaze, in Deathwatch Gamemasters

So the Blood Drinkers have a secret. Yeah, you can guess it. Anyways, it seems silly that if it's discovered team Cohesion goes to crap. I'm considering running this as only having an effect if witnessed. Everyone can guess that they drink blood, but no one quite wants to see the spectacle. Now there's no stupid attempts at keeping things secret between the Blood Drinkers' player, the other players, and the GM. The Blood Drinker player now has to try to keep things discreet. It's like we now the neighbor beats his wife, but as long as we don't see it, we'll keep bowling together. Seem reasonable?

How long does the cohesion stay crap for? It seems to me some marines might think it was just a name that was there to sound scary, then go "Steve, what the hell, you guys actually drink blood? Gross!" and potentially distrub cohesion for a (arbitrary) while, but discovery seems odd to me. Overall your interp seems reasonable to me.

If they are Sons of Sanguinius they naturally drink blood.

End of mission would be the most sensible interpretation, and one that's pretty balanced.

It's worth pointing out that I feel the initial WP roll for the ridiculous +10WS should probably be made without recourse to FP. Otherwise this Chapter essentially gives the Marine +10WS.

eating fallen enemy brain to learn something is cool and quite normal, drinking blood is so disgusting and mind breaking.

The blood is a rather large organ, so drinking a large amount of blood would be sufficient to learn things about your opponent since you're eating a part of the enemy.

It's a Characteristic Test. FP can be used for Characteristic Tests. Even with the expenditure of a FP, a character with WP 45 has about a 30% chance of failure.

Only once Insanity is high enough that the third level of the Primarch's Curse is active.

Also I wonder about the ritual components with the Chalice of Vision relic...

Doing something once as part of a ritual and under controlled conditions is one thing, doing it all the time with whatever victim comes along is another. I guess if I saw Catholics really eating "the body and blood of Christ" in a literal fashion it might get to me a bit.

Sure but the name Blood Drinker isn't that much of a giveaway. I am sure when the chapter was founded it wasn't intended that the marines do that with the blood of whoever happens to stumble along.

I don't really know about that. If I was looking for a babysitter, I wouldn't call Moe Lester's Hands-On Childcare Services and then be surprised at the results.

Except that the High Lords of Terra are involved in the naming. It's not really a matter of "We are a bunch of guys who like to drink innocent blood so let's call ourselves the Blood Drinkers." Besides having gruesome names is part of the Angels of Death .

Flesh Tearers, Flesh Eaters, Soul Drinkers, World Eaters, there are a lot of Chapter names that fall into the gruesome for effect category.

I say it's no more gruesome than a "dance-off at the flagpole". lengua.gif

Still beardy as all heck, though! I'm thirsty so I'm great at fighting stuff. Yay! gran_risa.gif

The flesh tearers mechanics is really nice, though.

Define beardy for me.

You use it all the time, and I am unclear as to the exact intent of it's meaning.

Is it a reference to your nature as an unnaturally hairless male and the inferiority you feel from that, or just a perverse desire to rid yourself of your male nature and attempt to look like a 14 year old boy in a sad hope of attracting immature women? sorpresa.gif

I could not think of anything more representative of the mindset of a 14 year-old though than trying to bad-mouth other guys in hopes of appearing more masculine and mature in comparison. gui%C3%B1o.gif

"Hey Joey, look, I got funny hair." happy.gif

Not to mention that most those mature, hairy guys start to look out for the same immature young women once mid-life crisis hits.

Alex

I was actually wanting a definition of beardy from someone who actually uses the term. That part wasn't sarcastic.

Personally, I find the modern fear of body hair, both male and female, to be an always amusing subject. gran_risa.gif

Beardy generally means Unsportsman like behaviour through twisting and perverting the rules or cheesey combinations. Similar to Powergamers.

Generally people who have Beardy behaviour are also Gits lengua.gif
