New Talent

By Storhamster, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

After yesterday's session we came up with a concept for a new talent. We´d like to run it by you and get some quality feedback happy.gif

Holy Fury

Prerequisite: Hatred: Daemons, Heretics, Mutants, Psykers, or Xenos

Cost: 300

Description:

When entering combat with one or several creatures for which you have any of the above Hatred-talents, you may take a Willpower-test. On a success you will get Righteous Fury on a damage roll of 9-10 against those creatures for the duration of the encounter.

Our interpretation of this talent is that when opposed by a living blasphemy against the God-Emperor's holy vision, you are filled with such fury and hatred that you descend upon them as a bloody angel of vengeance guided by His Hand.

This talent is mainly aimed towards sororitas but may be taken by anyone of sufficient faith. The purpose of this talent would fulfill is in our eyes, a much needed expansion to the Hatred rules, providing a reason for acolytes focused on ranged combat to start down the hatred-path. Something sorely lacking in a hatred-filled setting as Warhammer 40K. It also gives another view of the Emperor guiding the faithful other than the "Faith Talents".

The fact that this talent would require multiple hatred talents and quite a high willpower to be truly effective makes sure that it is not overpowering (in our view). There would of course, as always, need to be a good motivation as to why a certain creature is included in a given hatred talent. Grox-hating because of Hatred: Xenos? Maybe not. Same goes for the most unspecific talent of all, Hatred: Heretics. The GM would need to balance this so that not every enemy is a heretic, or at least not such a obvious heretic that everything is included by this talent.

Thoughts?

[Edit] ****! Just noticed that this post should be in the House Rules part of the forum... If a moderator could move this post there we would be grateful.

What rank were you aiming for on this one? Remeber Some of the Sororitas get Holy Hatred/ so multipul hatreds will not be needed, though the bonus is not so great that it could be considered broken with the exception of weapons with high RoF. Not a bad idea, I could see allowing a cleric early access to it and a sororitas maybe alittle later in rank.

Aha! Google shows me that Holy Hatred is a talent from BoM. A book we sadly don´t possess. I´m guessing that it means something along the lines of "Hatred: Everything"?

In which case this talent becomes even better.

We were thinking of rank 5+ for clerics/sororitas and as an elite advance for the other careers at the same rank. A good argument would have to be presented to the GM as to why a non cleric/sororitas character has such a strong bond to the Emperor.

Oh, ya if you like the hatreds, BoM has alot of that feel to it, heh. Yes holy hatred is basicly a talent for Celestians, and some alternat advancment careers in BoM, that gives you the hatred bonus against anything not a "true" servant of the Emperor(Adeptas, Guardsmen,)

Another thing to consider though is once ascended, when mixed with Transcendant Hate and Herorine of the Order this could be extremly powerful, though that may not be a bad thing.

Well, once the characters are ascended, the power level will already be insanely high with vindicares, death cultist and such.

Is the cost of 300 enough or should it be higher to reflect the potential power of this talent?

I think rank 5 300 is not bad.

I think my Primaris... who is a Drusian Adherent, and currently working on getting Pure Faith, and later Pious Observation, would like this one.
