Fluff-How BIG can a human warp capable vessel get?

In my campaign i've introduced "Greatholds" massive cargo vessels used to transport really, really big stuff, like titan legions, or pre-fabricated space defenses, monitor ships and even disassembled space stations. They don't do trade runs as such, more, they are owned by massively powerful groups like the Admech and the Navy and are used specifically for certain missions. My PCs swung a deal with the admech to get 4 system monitor ships and a bunch of defense platforms delivered to a system they own, a great hold is the only vessel capable of that.

I'd also see them used in truly huge wars to move the kind of troops and equipment you'd need for the big, hive world type wars. A greathold could move literally millions of troops in one go along with entire regiments of armour, aircraft, etc. Of course, its something you'd want to protect well.

I imagined them being larger than a battleship, about 10km long and most of their bulk being vast open cargo holds.

Similar vessels are in the recent Imperial Armour Book (10) - Imperial High Liners (like in Dune) and are pretty much as you describe :0

Alos has BFG stats.

On the OP - how big do you want them to be - the Imperium has some truely vast ships and warp capable stations but rare as its alot of eggs in one basket that can be surprisingly fragile in the Warp - maybe not destroyed but getting lost for a century or two would not be good!

I don't remember where they talk about a freaking huge transport ship the Slaugther House that would be extremely big but just a transport.

You're thinking of the Bountiful Beast, which is indeed gigantic - 16km long.

This is a link to a diagram I did ages ago on the DH forum which showed comparative sizes of some Calixian vessels of note. The only vessels on this diagram which aren't based on canon sources are the Misericord and the Emperor class. I used a "best guess" to come up with a size for these two. Other than that, they're accurate.

I might do another one of these diagrams for some of the Badab War vessels...

Where did the Bountiful Beast appear?

Dark Heresy's "The Radical's Handbook", p30. Full title: Livestock and Victual Mass Conveyance Provender Bountiful Beast. Or "The Reek". Probably a long range supply vessel for the Angevin Crusade and nearly 16km long.
