817.M41 - Which Characters are where?

By ak-73, in Deathwatch

It is the 41st millenium...

No, seriously. Let's go through a list of names and speculate on who is who in the year 817.

Easiest is Dante. He is already the chapter master of the blood angels and has been for a long time. But Mephiston isn't Mephiston yet.

What about Calgar? Is he a young Chapter Master? What about the Dark Angels?

Alex

dunno that much about the space marine special characters, but everyone in any Dan Abnett book is long dead with the exceptions of

1. Abaddon

2. the Emperor (arguably)

I don't know what happened to Alpharius-Omegon.

Well for one, Lufgt Huron is, as of 817, the honoured and respected master of the Astral Claws, and has been for 99 years...

Marneus Calgar led the Ultramarines in 745 in the destruction of Hive fleet Behemoth, so yes, he's active as chapter master durng 817

Logan Grimnar became Great Wolf of the Space Wolves in 659, M41, so he's active in 817...

As far as Calgar, in 817.M41 he has most likely been Chapter Master for at least 122 years (72 years since the Battle for Macragge, arbitrarily saying 50 years as Chapter Master prior to that). Assuming that he was at least a 100 year veteran before becoming Master (and I reckon that to be low; 200 is more likely), by 817 he's around 235-240 years old (or 335-340). He still has all his natural limbs and both eyes. I think it's safe to say that whatever the case, by 817.M41 he's a well-seasoned veteran.

Oh and the Sabbat world Crusade started about 750, and the Gaunt's Ghosts books have reached about 775 or so. This means that the youngest members of the Ghosts would be in their 80s by 817. This is not to say they aren't still active, given rejuvenat treatement...

Commissar Yarrick probably hasn't even been born yet...

Commissar Cain might have been , as he was over 200 years old towards the very very end of M41. So by 817, he might be around 17 years old.

Okay, what about the Space Wolves?

Well, like I say, Grimnar is great wolf. No idea about Ragnar Blackmane, as I don't know his DOB. happy.gif I would imagine that if he went straight from Blood claw to wolf lord as of the late 900s he's still pretty young, so maybe not actually born as of 817. A best guess would be that he was born maybe 900-930. Probably at least half of the wolf lords described in the new space wolf codex are active as of 817, though. (That last bit is total speculation, I must stress! )

I agree that Ragnar is almost certainly of the 900+ generation. That being the (assumed) case, Berek Thunderfist is the Wolf Lord of the Blackmane Great Company (a position he held until slain, after which Ragnar was elevated in his place).

For Dark Angels all I know is:

917M41 — Azrael becomes Master of Death Wing.

939M41 — Azrael becomes Grand Master of the Dark Angels

We know that Azrael was a member of the Deathwing and also Captain of the 3rd Company prior to this. So my guess is he is either of those "currently". Also it says that he "proceeds Brother Rhamiel". So we could guess that Rhamiel is the current Chapter Master?

I tend to use this timeline for this kind of stuff: http://www.scholaprogenium.com/timeline.html

You are right, I was probably premature saying all of them are dead. although I would doubt most guardsmen would receive rejuvenat treatment. assuming Gaunt doesn't die in blood pact (which I haven't read and don't know what it's about so if I'm wrong please spoiler before correcting me) he might still be in action. and the defence of vervunhive is 769 and dalin was just a little boy like 5 or something. so he would still be in his 50's. might still be in service (again assuming he doesn't die)

everyone in Eisenhorn and Ravenor are dead except the daemons. I think the most interesting is the astral claws so far :) wouldn't it be great to run an astral claw in the deathwatch at the time of the rebellion. who was their parent chapter?

Well actually, Dan Abnett is talking about rounding off the Ravenor/Eisenhorn books with a third "Eisenhorn vs Ravenor" trilogy, so who knows what's going to happen there! I seem to recall the books took place a couple of centuries before 817. Personally, I always liked to think of Ravenor as Inquisitorial Grand Master of the Scarus Sector by 817, but we shall see! happy.gif

The astral claws are reputed to be an Ultramarines successor, but it's not entirely certain. As of 817 they are a very respected chapter, the most senior of a group of 5 chapters known as the "warders of the Maelstrom" who are tasked with defending the Imperium from anything that emerges from that particular warp storm. As such, they'd make ideal Deathwatch material...

Is Uriel around at that time too? and the chaos marine that hates him?

As far as the Ultramarines...

Calgar is Chapter Master

Cato Sicarius has yet to become Captain of the 2nd Company, but is an honored warrior (Soon after Sicarius became captain he was announced the Suzerain of Ultramar...in 849.M41)

Chaplain Cassius is the still rebuilding the Ultramarine's 1st Company, which will not be at 1/2 strength until 841.M41.

Sergeant Torias Telion is an active Sergeant in the 10th Company.

Although there are no solid dates, I would assume that Varro Tigurius is Chief Librarian around this time.

Uriel Ventris has not even been bron yet (was born on Calth in 876.M41).

Hope this helps.

815 (next year) Seth becomes Chapter Master of the Flesh Tearers

Mephiston doesn't become Mephiston until Armaggedon 2 (which is 941)

Ludoldus is most likely High Marshall of the Black Templars (Helbrecht is a neophyte in 833 during the Vinculus Crusade that Ludoldus was in)

The Ultramarines first company is still decimated and won't reach 50% strength for another 26 years. The noteable SM named characters are tooling around and have been for awhile (Calgar, Cassius, Tygerius). Uriel hasn't been born yet.

Hestan Vulkan is the Forgefather and has been kicking around for awhile.

Bloodquest has not happened yet (as Mephiston is Chief Librarian during it).

812 - Siege of Vraks begins. 820 - first sighting of the Alpha Legion at Vraks 821 - SGM Azrael brings the Dark Angels personally into the fight at Vraks with almost half of the chapter.

812 - Yriel and the Eldar defeat Hive Fleet Naga, next fleet is kraken in about 80 years or so.

The Sabbat Worlds Crusade MAY still be going on (as the books are up to 775 and there's a long way to go yet before victory).

Safe to assume Storm of Iron hasn't occured yet since that's one of the preludes to the 13th Black Crusade (like Angels of Darkness).

(Searched through BBB, C:DE, C:E, C:Tau, C:CSM, IA:3/4/8, C:Orks, C:DA, C:IG for relevent dates/events, the abovementioned are the ones that are closest to 814. No access currently to a C:SW sadly to place when Ragnar replaces Thunderfist).

Thanks guys. Anyone who has more, even if it's just educated guesses, feel free to join.

Wow, the Vrak's stuff is way off with Azrael. Looks like somebody didn't do their homework!

Actually, after more reading of Purging of Kadilus Harbor, it would appear that some Dark Angels, upon their elevation to full rank battle brother, take a new name, and Vet Sgt Naaman muses that he is the 27th Naaman to have been in the chapter. So, technically, there could have been two Supreme Grand Master Azraels, especially since we don't seem to see the name of who he is successor to. Weak I know, but FW usually doesn't screw up that bad lol

Also, frankly Azrael was leading half the chapter at that point, even if not technically the chapter master they troops would have come up with honorifics based off the back of it, maybe they were premature calling him Supreme Grand Master but he clearly was Supreme Grand Master off the back of it and history isn't always perfect in the Imperium.

815 (next year) Seth becomes Chapter Master of the Flesh Tearers

Firstly, BrotherHostower, that's some good work, clearly you sir are an Adept Loremaster.

Secondly, Captain Seth Gabriel of the Flesh Tearers is almost as good, though the travel time back to Cretacia might preclude characters running into him. It sadly also means that the Seth Eldbow won't exist yet sadly.

Yea, I'll just say that Azrael was the overall leader of the Dark Angels during Vraks and that he was Captain of the 3rd Company (rather than leading the entire chapter at that point). Still works well.

I actually didn't realize that Vraks was set in the year it is, I assumed all of the ForgeWorld stuff was 998ish (Badab aside).

Imperial Fists Captain Darnath Lysander

800.M40 (approx.): A three year campaign recovers the world Haddrake Tor from Chaos. In the course of the campaign, 1st Company Captain Kleitus is lost but passes the Fist of Dorn to Lysander before his death, and with it the 1st Captainship. Source Codex Space Marines (4th Edition) p. 47

966.M41: Lysander leads the Imperial Fists to Malodrax and scours the Iron Warriors from the planet. Source Codex Space Marines (5th Edition), p. 49

So it would seem that Captain Darnath Lysander is around and in command of the 1st Company of the Imperial Fists and he has the Hammer of Dorn in his possession.

Not so much, he was lost in the warp and won't show up till 966. (Your first and last dates are over 1000 years apart.)

The purging of conteqal was JUST finished.

The Legion of the Damned won't exist for another 100 years.

What about the Crimson Fists? Anybody?
