Diseases and the Cure Disease Blessing

By limelight, in WFRP Rules Questions

So I used the disease rules on my players and almost killed one of them...they are nasty!

Question about curing a disease...

In the rules it says that a character makes a resilience check after sleeping. The difficulty for this check is (2d) if you are suffering from 1 disease and (3d) if more than 1, then add a misfortune die for each additional symptom. So far so good...

They go to a priest of Shallya and the priest performs the blessing "Cure Disease". The difficulty is the SEVERITY of the disease (which was 3) do these things contradict one another?

Any one that can explain and help please do!

If I remember correctly (not having it in front of me), Cure Disease only needs one success to work, whereas the nightly Resilience roll requires a number of successes equal to the severity.

I assume that you are concerned that a character's nightly recovery test will only ever have a base difficulty of 2 or 3 challenge dice, while a disease with a severity of 4 or 5 would add 4 or 5 challenge dice to the Cure Disease invocation check. Makes Cure Disease look pretty hard to use in comparison.

That's not the case though. The Cure Disease blessing is an opposed check -> Invocation(Fel) vs. (Disease/Symptom Severity), so the number of challenge dice added to the check is variable.

For instance, if the Shallyan that was invoking the blessing to cure a disease of severity 3 has a fellowship of 3, then 2 challenge dice are added to the check (3=3, average(2d)).

If the Shallyan has a fellowship of 4, then only 1 challenge die is added to the check (4>3, easy(1d)).

Also, like Doc, the Weasel said, to recover from a disease on your own, you need a number of successes equal to or greater than the severity of the disease, while Cure Disease only needs 1 success, and gets better with more successes.

Hope that helps,
