Core + Pegasus + Exodus Question

By brucifer2, in Battlestar Galactica

Hiya

Got my copy of Exodus in the post (W00T!) and was wondering, do you use the New cap phase with all the other options from Exodus, or do you bin that in favour of the Nebula? Ive just scanned the online rules (very briefly i might ass) and it wasnt clear.

Many thanks in anticipation of helpful responses

The Nebula is a new endgame choice, like Kobol or New Caprica. So you can play with the new Loyalty cards and the Cylon Fleet board no matter which endgame you're using, but if you use the Nebula you don't use New Caprica.

Ok thats cool and thanks for the response.

As we havent played the new parts yet, whats the Nebula end like compared to new cap? As in duration, fun, etc.

Many thanks once again.

I like it. The trauma tokens and allies make for some interesting considerstion for most of the game. It now makes it risky to go to the brig/sickbay as you can accumulate more trauma or even get executed. The end game can provide form some tense moments as well if players dont manage things properly.

As far as time goes I can't comment because we've been playing 7-player games lately which skews them longer.

I've played it six times so far. My thoughts on it are simplistic and categorical: it's the best destination. It's as hard and balanced as Kobol, but infinitely more interesting.

I have to agree. I was never very fond of the New Caprica phase and more often than not we left it out.

With the Exodus expansion, the Crossroads phase makes for a very interesting alternative. It prolongs the game to some extend, that's true. But all in all it's a very new and exciting approach to one of the best TV series ever. :)

The only thing that I'm not so happy about is the elimination of players. It's not like your character dies but you still get to win if your faction wins. No, if you are eliminated during the Crossroads phase, you can pack up and leave! (FFG already fumbled like this in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition and I'm very unhappy to see them fumble this for BSG.)

That said, as much as it sucks that someone *may* get eliminated, it is something that happens, basically, right at the end of the game. So while it sucks, the player shouldn't have an hour to kill while everyone finishes the game.

At least, that was my impression. Only played it once, and we didn't get that far before it was 2am and we gave up for the night...

I agree with Ronson_64.

I never considered New Caprica to be fun. BSG is a fun game.

New Caprica is an entirly different game (with the same core rules) But the options for human & cylon actions are just not well balenced.

The Ionian Nebula is a much better end game for BSG, since it's still the same set of BSG actions.

And like Ronson_64 I don't like the rule to eliminate a player. However, In all games of exodus I have so far played. No one has been eliminated. It's fairly easy to get rid of all your trauma tokens before reaching the nebula, even for a revealed cylon.
