Looking for a proper distinction

By The Glen, in Deathwatch Gamemasters

Had a player impress me during play, going to offer him the first distinction. A specialized tactical marine with lots of vehicle and tech skills took his rhino into a battle zone to evacuate friendlies that were getting the worst of it. Kept going back to get more and until he relocated nearly an entire company of Imperial Fists and got them to a better position to hit Chaos from. The rhino was crippled at the last and the IF went and got the marine out of the crippled Rhino, even though he was another chapter entirely. Guy RP'ed above and beyond (especially getting IF to actually give ground, even momentarily) and I thought that should get at least something special. Was thinking a distinction, and possibly one of the lesser honors.

For Distinction perhaps Brothers of the Blood, or a lesser Universal Renown for IF specificly(Like a Peer Imperial Fists).

For honors probably a lesser version of the Skull and Motto is only thing I could find that would seem appropriate.

If you can't find a distinction that fits, you can always make up your own.

I've been thinking about making a special distinction for my players when they finish Oblivion's Edge. I went ahead and made 6 missions for them to do per the "Weaken the Hive Fleet" segment, and they are just about ready to tackle the Hive Ship itself.

For rescuing Avalos, I plan to give them bronze military styled lanyards (chords). Affixed to one shoulder with Avalos's seal, branching across the chest to the opposite shoulder. I was inspired by the art inside the Deathwatch Core Rulebook, as they have a few Space Marines with such lanyards, but they don't explain their merit.

And probably offer some merit they can buy with XP, its been quite a campaign.

I like the idea of the Peer(Imperial Fist). You could have him presented with a small IF icon to mount on his armor, or an ornate gauntlet.

Or an IF tattoo on his buttocks.

He evacuated a company of Imperial Fists? The guys too stubborn to ever retreat? His actions sound awesome, but the IF in me says they should be cranky with him, not rewarding him.

I would go with Favoured Foe - he's angry about being forced (by fate) to withdraw, about not being able to face the enemy head on the way the Emperor intended. Or Reason and Will - he knows when standing his ground is foolish and can convince others to fall back instead of needlessly sacrificing themselves.

They never retreated, they repositioned for a new angle of attack. That's their story and they are sticking to it. That was also his suggestion to them to get them in the bloody rhino.

BAM. Jaws of Intellect or Mental Ascension combined with Endless Favour. Call it the Saviour of (whatever the name of that battlefield is). He out thought both his enemies and the Imperial Fists' nature, and in doing so saved the company, saved the battle, crushed the enemies of the Imperium, etc, etc.
