GM sheets

By Withered, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Does anyone know where i might find good npc record sheets for keeping track of assorted cultists and low interest (i.e. expendable) characters that my players might encoutner ?

The connection on my work laptop is...terrible to say the least, and it is severly limiting my search-fu, and my ability to instantly gratify myself.

With the appropriate info, i can use my personal gear to capture these resources at much faster, less suicide inducing, speeds.

And are there are any really, really flavorful and accurate character sheets out there that anyone can recommend?

Thanks,

L.

For keeping track of NPC's I use lined paper, and just write notes like crazy, but if you want important NPC sheets just use the Character Sheets from the Support section on this site.

In a pinch, i use graph paper.

i am spoiled since i found some really nice sheets for use with my WFRP game. It lets me keep track of the grunts pretty easily, and i like the uniform look.

I did that in Cyberpunk 2020, eveey NPC of any worth has a sheet, and even grunts by the bucket load had a sheet with a bit of paper attach so i could cross them off as they died. I got to a point of when my pc's killed my NPC someone would get the sheet thrown at them to bin (they were normally nearer).

I personally reccomend for the "grunt by the bucket load" NPC you go with the following rules:

1. Make 1 template, using 30 as the average stat. +5 for what they're good at, -5 for what they're not.

2. Don't bother looking up whats skills and talents there are. If he has a hevay machinegun, he can use a heavy machinegun. If he's driving a truck, he can drive a truck. if he's a drug dealer...he knows about dealing drugs. Don't waste time compiling a huge archaic list trying o fit the various PC talent/skills into what you already know the mook can do.

3. Record the basic soak (toughness + armor), and possible weapon variants within a bucketload of them. mark any special bits too (fear, for instance)

4. Insert as needed. Use either the two strikes rule, or a simple wound track list. to decide when they die horribly.

Taa-da. A grunt-o-matic.

Agreed on the grunt-o-matic idea.

However if you just want sheets themsleves this http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=50&esem=4 is a spot to get them, scroll down past the designer diaries etc to gaming aids, where character sheets are present. I find it fairly useful not fro grunts or lower level enemies but say rivals like a rival inquisitor's cell who thus work off the same rules as the pc's and can benefit from having such a sheet available.

For non-epic NPCs and template level mooks I use a handy NPC logsheet that was posted on Dark Reign a while back. Has room for 3 profiles per page and includes all the basics. Stats, movement, skills, talents, weapons, armour, wounds. It lacks room to document a psyker or important NPC, but hey, you kind of expect that when 3 characters fit on one page.... These are invaluable when you start "tweaking" the difficulty on published adventures to fit your group. Any NPC that gets an updated stat block gets a write up... Boom! no more cramming 33 separate margin notes and post-its onto the NPC pages in the back of your books. I also find it is useful to make a separate photocopy of any provided character art and be sure to remove all text from around the artwork except for any banner listing the name. This way I can describe AND SHOW the NPC to the players.

I do everything in Excel, so all my NPCs and adversaries and whatnot get their own sheet. Many versions exist, from Hordes to big important NPC's that have full PC-like stat sheets. All meant to summarise everything they do that is relevant to the game.
