Fan Supplements for RT & ships bigger than cruisers

By GregorM1980, in Rogue Trader House Rules

Hi Folks,

do you happen to know fan supplements for RT, that you think might be of a real use for the game.

I tried to find material about it, but wasn`t really successful. :(

In addition: in some postings on this board, battlecruisers and other ships of the line are mentioned, but i can`t find no material about it.

You might want to check out Dark Reign, there's quite a few fan supplements and collected house rules over there.

As for rules for ships larger than cruisers, there aren't any currently, though "Battlefleet Koronus" is meant to be out soon, so that might be able to satisfy you for ship rules and the like.

I'm actually hoping that there aren't any ridiculous attempts to allow Rogue Traders to tear-ass around the Expanse in battleships. Sigh.

Anyways, here's a list of Battlefleet Gothic conversions - http://darktrader.wikidot.com/major-ship-classes

@Fortinbras: just to avoid a misunderstanding. I don`t even remotely plan to give my players someting bigger than a light cruiser. Everything else is a dedicated warship in my opinion and doesn`t belong into the hands of even the most successful RT. It`s just an interest based question. I`m just a "guy who wants to know".

Oh yeah, I wasn't implying that. I approve of battleships as set pieces. But they should be sort of like capital ships in Freespace 2, or Star Wars. They shoot each other while the more awesome characters do all the hard work. happy.gif

Edge of the Abyss has a Grand Cruiser in it, shouldn't be to hard to reverse-engineer if you want an official ship bigger than a cruiser. In BFG terms, a grand cruiser is bigger than a battlecruiser but smaller than a battleship.

What about something truly spectacular like a Blackstone Fortressa Planet Killer?

Through sheer low unning, my players running through LotE managed to stop the Light of Terra being destroyed (via the careful application of a Mimic Engine, the Rite of Setesh,a careful rewiring of the ships remaining augers)have spend the last five years in game building an empire to get the components to repairrebuild her. I was kinda hoping BFK would have Battleships so I didn't have to house rule up stats for it.

Worth mentioning, that there's bee na lot of footwork the players have done to do this. THey've built up their profit factor to 70, just to cut it down to 35 again in order to get the componentshave raided space hulks, fought genestealer purestrains, gone up against a half dozen other Rogue TradersNoble houses, founded two colonies just to make this happen. Given what I've put them though, they've earned it. I would never support STATRING with a battleship.

My own players managed to salvage the Light of Terra as well. The way Lure of the Expanse was written, unless a GM is a heavy-handed plot-hammer-wielding devotee of the Railroad Plot school of adventure design, there were so many ways a creative player could get a very different outcome. Case in point, instead of seeking the Dread Pearl as a prize the RT managed to open negitiations with the Eldar to help protect it by betraying their rivals to the Eldar. Several rivals eliminated in a way that can be blamed on Xenosnon-hostile contacts among the Eldar for future negotiations? He felt that was worth more than any single world that he'd have to fight other RTs over.

The Light of Terra was handled in a similar manner. Deciding that it was impractical to think about using it himself, he simply towed it back to Port Wander (admittedly an Endeavour all by itself)presented it as a gift to the Imperial Navy there. I decided this was worth the free award of PeerGood Reputation: Imperial Navy. Again, +20 in negotiation with the Imperial Navy was thought to be far more useful in the long run.

The main problem is what got looted from the Light of Terra before it was given to the Navy. The Rogue Trader's player put forward the (admittedly reasonable) argument that as the flagship of an Imperial Crusade, the Light of Terra should have a cache of Exterminatus munitions aboard...

Heh. They even included my Ironmonger-class Mechanicus Tender. Very cool.

That should be an easy enough fix if you're uncomfortable with it and don't want to just GM-fiat take it back. The Light of Terra's been lost for what, almost 2,000 years? So the players got a load of virus bombs, with the virii all dead and turned to dust over the intervening centuries. Not particularly useful, though they might make a good bluff. Are they actually brave/foolhardy enough to want to try to use a cyclonic torpedo that hasn't had a techpriest touch it in two millennia? Would their techpriest even let them take it aboard their ship? There should be some serious questions about the stability of those munitions, and the Inquisition probably would like a word with the players on getting their special toys back to say the least....

Good luck!

Is there any hope of getting any firm stats for the Light of Terra? The only component we know definitely exists is the Hidden Holds (Shadowblind Bays). Now that Battlefleet Koronus is out, would you gentlemen care to give your take on what a Battleship like the Light of Terra might look like?

Here's my take:

Apocalypse Class Battleship

Move: 3
Manoeuvre: +0 [Cannot perform Come To New Heading Manoeuvre Action]
Detect: +10
Hull Integrity: 110
Armour: 20 (24 on Armoured Prow)
Turret: 4
Space: 110
Weapons: 1 Prow Nova Cannon, 1x Dorsal Mars pattern Macrocannon Broadside , 3x Port Titanforge Lance Battery, 3x Starboard Titanforge Lance Battery
Alternatively:
Retribution Class Battleship
Move: 4
Manoeuvre: +0 [Cannot perform Come To New Heading Manoeuvre Action]
Detect: +10
Hull Integrity: 110
Armour: 20 (24 on Armoured Prow)
Turret: 4
Space: 110
Weapons: 1 Prow Torpedoes (Strength 9), 1x Dorsal Godsbane Lance Battery, 3x Port Hecutor pattern Plasma Battery Broadside, 3x Starboard Hecutor pattern Plasma Battery Broadside

This isn't actually helping at all (quick post from the work computer and all that) but the picture of the Light of Terra looked more like an Emperor-class Battleship (although I've been calling it a command carrier cause that sounds more speccy). So it'll have at least the four launch bays and (probably) an archeotech Auger array.

Emperor Class Battleship

Dimensions: 9.7 km long
Crew: 210 000 approx.
Accel.: 1.6 Gravities max sustainable acceleration

Move: 3
Manoeuvre: +0 [Cannot perform Come To New Heading Manoeuvre Action]
Detect: +18
Hull Integrity: 110
Armour: 20
Turrets: 5
Space: 110 (24 are reserved for the Launchbays)
Weapons: Prow Godsbane Lance battery, Dorsal Godsbane Lance battery, Port Hecutor Broadside, Starboard Hecutor Broadside, 2 Port Jovian Launchbays, 2 Starboard Jovian Launchbays,

Battleship class Void Shield Array: 4 Void Shields

8 ready squadrons of attack craft, 24 squadrons total.

Note: Cannot take Armoured Prow due to extensive prow mounted sensor probes. Cannot remove launchbays.

I like the different takes on the ships. This is so helpful, thanks for sharing!
