Location vs. Area?

By rayawolf13, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

So, I have just a few questions surrounding the distinction between location and area... mosty concerning things like Hound of Tindalos, Flute of the OUter Gods, and Werewolf.

So, for a long time, I (mis?)interpreted area to sort of mean neighborhood- you know, like all of northside or whatever. And location to be the single spce- and that locations were not street areas. I don't know. They seem to be used interchangably sometimes, and sometimes not.

So for the flute, does it nuke all monsters in your neghborhood or just your one space?

Similarly, does the werewolf, upon moving into, say, merchant streets, still damage you even if you're in unnammable?

And finally, can the hound hunt you down even if you're in the streets?

Thanks!

On the board you have areas. Some of them are streets, while the others are locations. A neighborhood consists of some locations and a street area. The Flute refers to an area, since you can use it both in a street area or in a location. You can check the wiki here for a more exhaustive explanation.

Yeah... You're right about the location terminological confusion. It's been established for years that the Hound moves into locations as they were properly defined though. Sorry that the best I can give you is an argument from authority and tradition, but there's really nothing else on the subject that I'm aware of.

Locations AND streets are areas. Location is a particular place, a streets are just... well streets. But both are simply two different types of areas.

Here's the problem: FFG said that and then proceeded to ignore it with sloppy wording on a wide variety of things. However, clarification questions were submitted by forumites while making the new FAQ.
