Differences in products?

By Sakri, in WFRP Rules Questions

This is not a rule question but I didn't find a better forum.

Can someone explain, what is the difference between Player's Guide and Player's Vault? Game Master's Guide and Game Master's Vault? Creature Guide and Creature Vault? Do they have overlapping content or are they completely separate products? Does one make another obsolete? I'm confused. Which should I buy? I am looking to expand my experience beyond the basic game.

The Guide are hardcover books, and the Vaults are boxes of components. In general, the materials in the Vault complement the information in the respective Guide.

Players Guide is the "PC rulebook", also with listings for careers and actions, etc. The Players Vault contains the character sheets, career cards, action cards, etc.

GM Guide and Creature Guide are similar to this as well.

What materials/supplements do you currently own? What types of careers do you have in your group, and how many players? Give us some more information, and we an suggest what we believe to be the best order of purchase for you.

I have the big basic game box, The Adventurer's Toolkit and The Gathering Storm adventure. I would like to expand my game but I don't know which of those products I mentioned to buy because I don't want overlapping material. I want completely new player options, monsters etc. I don't know how it matters but I have 4 players and the group composes of waywatcher, ironbreaker, envoy and apprentice wizard if I remember the career names correctly.

So, do I understand correctly that if I buy all other products (and read the errata), I get no new game info in Player's Guide, Player's Vault, GM's Guide, and GM's Vault?

Also, does Creature Guide or Creature Vault contain all the monsters and rules that are in the other product? Or do they contain different sets of monsters with little overlap?

This is unnecessarily confusing. FFGs marketing department hasn't done good job here.

BTW, I am unhappy with the mix of dice in the extra dice pack. It should have 3 white and black dice since those are needed aplenty.

Yes, if you buy the correct products (not necessarily everything), you find nothing new in the Player's and GM's vault and guide, OTHER than how to play without bits and clarification on rules ... hopefully these clarifications will eventually make it into the Errata, FAQ, but they are not there yet.

There are totally new monsters found nowhere else in the Creature's vault and guide, and there is overlap from other products.

Hope that helps,
