A WFRP Old world setting fluff guide + Components vault

By D4M0CLES, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Im only sending an idea here, one me and my player are talking about for a while.

We think the Old World is really under detailed in the current edition. It would be awesome to offer a fully detailled Old World setting guide with poster map as the 4th Hardcover book of this edition. In addition, they could provide a small vault products for those components complementing the guide.

The point would be to get a massive tome about the lore of the warhammer fantasy world. Could be even written as fluff only! This could incorporate Halfling, new monsters, new careers for neighboring realm to the empire (Bretonnia, Kislev).

What do you think?

On one hand, I have shelves full of this information. On the other hand, I have shelves full of this information and think I could use lots more. Especially if it had some new art, a little bit of crunch (maybe the odd NPC), and an in-character viewpoint.

It would also be great for new players or GM's. Kind of like a new version of this.

I have had this same thought myself. It would be a huge help to GM's especially if a large fully detailed map were included. Now they could even just do one based on the Empire, but give tons of detail about the History, Politics, Wars, Hero's and Villians of the Past and Present. That way they can always make expansions that detail the realms outside of the Empire. We all know how buisnisess works and it would be in their best interests to separate all the info. Plus if they were to do it that way much more detail about the indivdual areas of each place could be included in each tome. One can assume that eventually they will add expansions for each of the playable races, due to the fact that the Blackfire Pass expansion will deal primarily with the Dwarfs. They can make an Athel Lorne one for Wood Elfs and an Ulthuan one for High Elves (although this one would probably have to be geared toward higher ranked characters). I think that the next one to deal with a specific race will detail the Moot, so that the publishers can appease all the Halfling lovers out there.

I like your idea to make it a Hardcover Book, and possibly add a vault as well. They could have the vault contain A gigantic map, a poster, several stand-ups for famous people (like the Emperor, Luthor Huss Balthazar Gelt, etc. etc.). And then more individual maps of specific areas. What else would you enclude in the Vault if the product in question were to just cover the Empire?)

Hopefully something like this is already in the works and will follow the obivious releases of the last two Ruinous Powers supplements!

I'd have to agree here.

Past editions have been rich in background materials - and especially maps. The current edition, in its effort to simplify the GM's job, has been fairly vague in its background material (with the exceptions of specific villages used in the scenario at hand) and even there, maps have been haphazard at best.

However, a background book is a massive undertaking, and tends to interest GMs rather than players, limiting the market...

I'd love to see it, wish it would, but I can't see it happening.

What they should really do is to contact Gitzman and ask him to help make a program - the "Super electronic Atlas of the Old World". It should be a program where you could look at his map as it is now and then search for locations, click on a location and get history and lots of info. Like the definitive Old World enclypedia and atlas rolled into one, that could simply be updated as FFG release more products.
