Buying for a friend: Did I do right by him?

By Eldil, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Hey everybody:

I'm excited, because I've just convinced another friend to buy the Game of Thrones core set. I was about to make an online order for some other stuff, so I told him I would get some stuff for him. Initially, I suggested he get a core set and the lords of winter expansion, since that would give him a lot of deckbuilding options in the house that most new players are drawn to. But I was surprised when he told me that he was drawn to Lannister.

Since there isn't a Lannister deluxe expansion yet, and he's not ready to get the entire King's Landing chapter pack cycle, I suggested that he let me pick out a couple chapter packs for him. I wound up picking Ancient Enemies and Sacred Bonds, for the heralds and the fury plots, so that he would have some good deckbuilding options for every house.

Did I make a good decision? And if he wants to get more chapter packs, and continues to favor lannister, what chapter packs should he get?

I'd get Battle of the Ruby Ford, for the Castellan. Wot5k is good, too for Jhalabar.

Ancient enemies will net him the 3x Toll Gate, which is a card thats both incredible and easy to use. Ruby Ford will get you Castellans and Devious Intentions, or the Brotherhood pack centred on Clansmen will give a lot of Lannister boost, that way your not buying Wo5k for 1 copy of Jhalabar, not that I am against that - hes pretty boss.

A 2nd core set is one of the best things for Lannister.

I agree. All in good time.

Thank you for the suggestions, everybody.
