Ship's Hierarchy

By SableWyvern2, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

While I don't plan to use the special abilities associated with the Ship Roles found in Into the Storm , it did seem useful to me to use the Roles themselves them as a baseline when developing a shipboard hierarchy. Apart from assisting players in determining their roles, it provides some useful guides as to which NPCs it's worth developing, and also goes a long way towards creating a feel for the structure of the vessel.

The end result can be found here, for anyone who might find it useful:

That's pretty cool. I'm starting up a game with complete 40k newbs, so I'm posting this as part of my Newb's Guide.

Very nice. I hand considered doing something similar, but this saves me so much time.

Good work! Oh, and *yoink*!

Yes, this is an excellent visual guide.

Just curious, what sources other than the Rogue Trader books (if any) did you reference?

Nothing -- just the details of the Ship Roles from Into the Storm and a few judgement calls. Some of the stuff in there may well be at odds with canon; for example, I decided the Magos Engineerum is essentially the Enginseer's 2ic, and that all the logistics and intelligence elements fall under the purview of the High Factotum, but I don't have any official sources to back this up.

When it comes to 40k lore, I'm just a learned amateur at best, so my hierarchy is not remotely authoritative.
