Tau Railgun and the Scout Titan

By Exoviper, in Deathwatch

Hi guys!

So with the tabletop game, the Tau railgun is considered to be one of the most powerful guns in the game (not counting titan weaponry). So how did it turn out in the RPG? Also what about the scout titan? Does it have void shields? What kind of armor are we looking at? What kinds of capabilities does it's weaponry have? Does a squad of marines stand a chance at bringing one down?

OK, the Scout titan has 2 Void Shields, which will be a bit tough to overcome, but not much.

It also has less structure than a Land Raider... but better weapons.

Ok. In what way? How do void shields work in-game and how much armor does it have? Do elaborate :)

Our of curiosity, is the Railgun on the Hammerhead referred to as a 'Railgun', a 'Rail Cannon', or a 'Hammerhead Railgun'?

Well, all I can post are the stats of the Manta "Heavy Railgun" that is included in the GM Kit:
S/-/- 6d10+12I Pen 12 Devastating(1), Felling, Twin-Linked

That sure hurts.

I'm curious myself to see how void shields work, I can think of a number of non-titan uses for them. Can't swallow the full mrsp on RoB though, so I guess I'll have to wait until April.

Void Shields have an Armor Rating of 24 (or 20 I can't remember which), and you need to do 20 (or 24, whichever the first one wasnt') points more than that and the shield goes pop. So yes, while the Warhound has slightly (5) less structure than the Land Raider, it will pretty much ignore the first 2 serious hits that have a chance of hurting it (though 44 damage won't hurt it's front armor of 50) . The Heavy (and by extension, regular) Rail Gun will do significant damage (aaand can 1 shot marines just like on the tabletop lol). They did a very good job of the vehicles in the book, except the Tau ones... How a Rhino (armor - front/11 side/11/ rear 10) has better armor on all facings over the devilfish (armor 12/11/10), and it's significantly better armor, I will never know and no, rhinos in RoB do not have the same stats as in ItS (upgraded armor so they can't be killed by a bolter front & side on, and astartes stormbolter instead of regular stormbolter, which is solid, just other race vehicle stats, which have better armor, should not be LESS than the Emperor's Mobile Shoebox).

I think this RPG is focusing more on the Space Marine fluff from novels as opposed to tabletop stats. In the books a squad of Space Marines in a Rhino would make short work of a slew of tau Vehicles, without even scratching the paint on their own transport. So in that sense, I can easily see why the tau vehicles aren't as bulked up as what the Space marines have.

Is the Rhino in Into the Storm the same as in Rites of Battle?

Santiago - It's not.

It's better. >:)

'Turret-Mounted Railgun'

Without posting any stats, I will say this:

#d10 is about half the heavy railgun. However, base damage is such that the railgun will be able to damage (not overload) void shields even if it rolls all 1's.

Submunition round is much less damage and Pen, but pretty big blast.

Cheers!

Then our RT entourage wants - no needs- an Astartes-grade Rhino.

When your GM starts firing rail guns at you it's time to start thinking about saying sorry for sleeping with his wife.
