Timing issue

Vipers rage and burnig on the sands

Would it be possible to play vipers rage as a response to losing a challenge, then play burning on the sands to not actually lose the challenge, or does vipers rage go off at a later point than burning on the sands.

Burning on the Sands uses the world "cancel" so it goes off in the save/cancel window before passives and responses. So, you would be required to play BotS first, and then not be able to play anything for having won, or lost the challenge (as challenge resolution was cancelled).

DJ explains the timing - and the crucial fact that BotS is a cancel - correctly. But think about it from a practical point of view, too. You are trying to complete determination of the challenge winner in order to play Viper's Rage, then go backwards and undo the determination of the challenge winner with BotS, effectively making it impossible to play Viper's Rage. Kind of a paradox, right?

The fact that Viper's Rage Responds to something BotS says never happened (losing the challenge) should be an indicator that the two cannot be used together.
