Remaining First Foundings... thoughts on when?

By Dulahan, in Deathwatch

So, despite call outs to the remainders in Rites of Battle, especially in terms of them being on the "Create a Chapter" tables... White Scars, Salamanders, Iron Hands, and Raven Guard.

We still have no rules for them. And when in Rites one of the 'create a chapter' things is to just base them on the progenitor chapter, that's 4 major chapters we can't do much with. Now, from looking at Rites. Iron Hands and Raven Guard you might be able to cobble something together with, might, the other two... probably not so much.

Looking at the release schedule, neither of the remaining books on it seem likely to have anything in them. Mark of the Xenos, well, this isn't about the Chapters! It's about what to kill. And the setting book, the Originals don't live in the region...

So when do you think we'll get the rest? Any hope of Web Supplements? Maybe the one for this book, to get even one would be pretty nice. Or some books way down the line. Which would suck, since that's still months away at best.

During an interview on 40K Radio, Ross mentioned that he would love to eventually write rules for all the Chapters. Considering that there are ~1000 of them, I doubt he'll ever manage THAT feat, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more pop-up down the line.

That's the extent of what we know, unfortunately.

They surely won't give those away for free... and if they are smart they'll do two first foundings next "season" and the other two the season after.

Well FFG could just supply the other First Founding chapters. Then the rest can be manufactured from the rulesets supplied to the players?

Isn't that the idea that people were expecting from Rites of Battle?

In all honesty i was expecting a couple of pages for each of the other founding chapters, and then a couple of pages with the rundown on how to create a successor chapter. Maybe half a page on the more well know founding chapter decendents (ie crimson fists) and how they differ from the parent chapter.

We all know that pretty much 99.99% of the sucessor chapters take someting from the parent chapter they are decended from.

Oh well, guess i'll have to wait to buy the book, to see what it's like.

The question would be how to make profit? If I was FFG, I'd probably consider staggering the release of the most prominent chapters to keep up interest.

Not during the currently known release schedule, that is a definite i guess.

I suspect that one might be sneaked into one of the planned releases in some manner, and it wouldn't surprise me if FFG were generous enough to put one or two of them up on-line at some point.

Considering that the Imperial Fists take 8 pages to cover everything, we could see the other four Chapters in a 32-page hardcover for around $20.00 whenever FFG wants a quick sure-sell product for the line. I'd rather see it in a minimum of a 72-page book (the size of The Frozen Reaches, which is about as thin as I care to see), so that might take another 40 pages... Like a cut and paste of the RT starship rules with stats for the Astartes vessels. This product really could be pushed out fast.

There's no such thing as 'fast' in publishing, unless you work for a newspaper... in which case 'fast' is too slow...

It would need to be added to the current project list they have. It would have to have resources dedicated to the project. It would need to be written, tested, proofread, playtested. It would need to be laid out in Quark/Whatever. Art would have to be commissioned, cover done, etc.

"pushed out fast" is not something that can really be done with a book as mentioned above.

Granted, I would love the information, but I doubt we'll see it anytime soon.

It might not be entirely out of the question to see one more released as the "Web Supplement" for Rites.

Though I do agree (Even if I hope I'm wrong) it's unlikely we'll get them all through the make your owns.

That said, it does baffle me that the Imperial Fists were put into the supplement with so much about Vehicles. Seems like the White Scars would have been a perfect fit. And moreso, that the Fists, while cool (and I am seriously considering one when I finally get to be a player instead of GM), are more vanilla in comparison. Being pretty standard Codex.

I'd definitely go for a 'big book of chapters' sort of book in a heartbeat. More successors that don't cleave so close to their parent chapters, the remaining 4 Originals. Hell, maybe even 'pre heresy' stats for the traitor legions (If not post heresy as well). Though the pre-heresy stuff might take another license to do, so I'm not holding my breath.

The Imperial Fists contribute quite a few marines to the DW, so it made sense to include them IMHO.

I think you could easily play a "counts as" White Scar using the Space Wolf rules. Not perfect, but playable.
