i was wondering about imperial army when i read again "legion" in this book and in other books of this line the imperial army has some exotic equipement like those of the "Regnault Thorns" or vehicle skimmer like.

so what i propose here is to collecte everyone memories about imperial armies "oddities" and transforme them in archeotchnologies.

so iwill come back with thorns armor

Skimmers are in the game as well, but they are fairly SM exclusive - its archaeotechnology and they cant afford for anyone else to have it.

My understanding is that during the Great Crusade the worlds were very diverse, each with its own technology, weapons, armor etc.

After the Heresy they were standardized and regimented. The Imperium went for stuff that is easy to build, maintain and use. This was pragmatic since exotic equipment would be hard to maintain far from its home, might not even work on some worlds and would require special training. Moreoever some of the technology was lost during the Heresy.

By the 41st M some worlds would still have exotic military units but the pressure would be to move to lasguns, Lemans and other normal gear. Exotic stuff would mostly be in PDF units and honor guards.

Ian Watson's book Space Marine (recently reprinted) had a traitor PDF unit that used roller blades and shuriken catapults. One of the Guant's Ghosts books had a unit who wore glass armor that could go from reflective (anti-laser) to dark (concealment). I'm sure there's more examples around.

It would make for a cool character or NPCs, some elite unit that refuses to give up the weapons and gear they've used for 10,000 years.
