Baratheon Asshai + Night's watch?

By goldenhk, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

I haven't built the deck yet. But here is the basic concept:

The deck will be mostly Asshai 1/2, with mostly Asshai events +attachments as well --> I will look onto that.

+ some assisting Night's watch (eg: Master Aemon, Mormont etc) 1/4

+ Barathoen characters (mostly life saving etc), which the only essential character will be Robert Barathoen from kot. 1/4

and some regular Barathoen locations that are good for power earning etc.

The really key component however will be The Wall, which makes all characters do not kneel to defend and allow me to be the 3rd player (Along Linage and Legacy), and sometimes the 1st player with The Power of Faith. Most characters should be at low to medium cost and half of them should be tri-con with the agenda. The main goal will still be the same old Baratheon - to get power, but with a variety of tactic now.

However I can see the biggest hole is that if I lose The Wall during game play, there is no point for this tactic, and well, I haven't figure out a way to save it yet (effectively). Any suggestions?

Well it is hard to give any advice without a deck list. If you want I've got an online deckbuilder that should let you make a quick deck with your idea that you can then post here or (if you sign up) directly on my forums.

I've got a friend that runs a deck like this but there are alot of moving parts so I'd suggest you limit the Asshai part at first. For the Wall to work you are also going to have to run your deck in Winter so that is 3 slots devoted to White Raven , 3 for Carrion Bird , and another 1 for A Time for Ravens . Your main problems are going to be facing a summer deck or anythign which can destroy the Wall. Try to make sure that your deck performs well even without winter/wall, My friends deck can be fairly powerful when everything works right but those times are few and far between and it definately loses more than it wins.

Thanks Darksbane, here is what I got:

Agenda
The Rangers (WotN) x1

Character: 31
Acolyte of the Flame (TWH) x3 > +1 STR Good with my standing tactic and a holy icon
Army of the Faithful (Core) x1
Bearer of the Light (KotStorm) x2
Carrion Bird (TWoW) x2
Edric Storm (Core) x2
Herald of the Stag (SB) x3
Maester Aemon (Core) x1
Maester Pylos (KotStorm) x1
Margaery Tyrell (TftRK) x1 -> Good with King'swood Trail
Marya Seaworth (KotStorm) x1 > Against kneeling
Melisandre (Core) x3
Old Bear Mormont (RotO) x1
Samwell Tarly (TRS) x2 > main drawing chance
Shadow Enchantress (OSaS) x2 -> Add on Military icon in case there is no wall
Stannis Baratheon (AKitN) x2 -> (Should be less of a target then Robert in kot I think)
The Queen of Thorns (TftRK) x1
Master Cressen (Core) x1
Robert Baratheon (Core) x2 -> With Fanatic he is very good for my tactic

Location: 17
Aegon's Garden (Core) x2
Altar of Fire (RoR) x2
King Robert's Chambers (Core) x1
King's Pavillion (KotStorm) x2 > Very good with standing tactic
Kingswood Trail (CoS) x2
Narrow Sea (Core) x2
Stormlands Fiefdoms (Core) x2
Street of Sisters (Core) x1
The Wall (TWoW) x3 > Key location

Event: 9
Confession (KotS) x2
Lord of Light, Protect Us (RoR) x3
Superior Claim (KotStorm) x2
Distinct Mastery (Core) x2 > Against kneeling

Attachment: 10
Accepted Destiny (KotStorm) x2
Fanatic (RoR) x3 > good with everything, and it is cheap
Ruby of R'hllor (KotStorm) x2
White Raven (TWoW) x3

Plot
A Time for Ravens (ACoS) x1
Building Season (Core) x1 > For The Wall or King's Pavillion
Many Powers Long Asleep (RoR) x1
Mutual Enemies (Core) x1 -> Insurance in case no Wall
The Power of Faith (KotStorm) x2 > Key bust plot key
Uneasy Truce (Core) x1 -> Again insurance

So it is left with 9 Asshai, 3 night's watch (if no duplicates). Not sure if I use total benefit of the Agenda, as I cannot ensure The wall to be there. And even if the wall is there, I am not sure if I took full benefit of its defending ability.

I've played the game since the CCG days but forgot my password so i had to create a new profile. Personally i would throw Summoning Season into your plot deck so that if you don't pull the wall on your initial set up you can assure it coming out in your marshaling phase. I started playing Baratheon but have since moved onto Greyjoy because of how ruthless they are. The big thing to look for in a Baratheon deck is it's rush factor. If you can beat people to the punch it will force them to play catch up and most people aren't comfortable with that play style and it forces them into doing things which they normally wouldn't allowing you to take full advantage of their weaknesses.

I think that looks pretty good for a start on such a combo heavy deck. I think it is going to be pretty hard to pull off on a regular basis though.

I don't normally suggest something which goes against the main focus of a deck but what if you removed the stuff related to The Wall and instead focused on a Holy deck with alot of standing tech and bonuses to your initiative so you are sure to go first on the turns you play Power of Faith? You've already got some standing tech in there (more can be had with things like King Robert's Hammer , Banner for the Storm ) so you'd just need to add in more Asshai Holy characters and things to help win you initiative like Overzealous Scout , Bay of Ice , Vanguard Lancer , or even possibly an out of house Cersei's Wheelhouse .

@Helm's Greyjoy: you are actually thinking of Building Season, not Summoning Season

Well you are right. I used around 10 cards to make sure the wall works and there are no other benefit other than the wall. I cannot make total benefit of the Night's Watch trait. And even that I cannot be sure the wall will always be there. Might as well make a holy and Asshai deck. However you have to admit that the wall tactic seems fun to play, haha.

Ok I made some changes. Basically I remove all winter-related + Night's watch cards and add in some more Asshai + holy (I put a * next to them):

Agenda: No

Character: 33
Acolyte of the Flame (TWH) x3
Army of the Faithful (Core) x1
Bearer of the Light (KotStorm) x2
Edric Storm (Core) x2
Herald of the Stag (SB) x3

Melisandre (Core) x3
Shadow Enchantress (OSaS) x3
The Queen of Thorns (TftRK) x1
*Old Red Priest (Core) x2
*Godswood Attendant (KotS) x1
*Intolerant Priest (RoR) x3
*Overzealous Scout (BoRF) x2 -> well I only got one copy of him ...
*Robert Baratheon (Core) x2 -> Final power push
*Selyse Baratheon (Core) x1 -> have a holy crest and might as well add an icon on Robert

Location: 18
Aegon's Garden (Core) x2
Altar of Fire (RoR) x2
King Robert's Chambers (Core) x1
King's Pavillion (KotStorm) x2
Kingswood Trail (CoS) x2
Narrow Sea (Core) x2
Stormlands Fiefdoms (Core) x2
Street of Sisters (Core) x1

*King Robert's Hammer (TBoBB) x2

Here are the things I am not quite sure about.

1, Will this deck lack drawing ability? My characters are mostly at 1-2 cost so the more the better.

2. Should I still use King Robert's Hammer if I cannot control weather?

3. Is Robert (core) the best choice here? I thought of Renly (kot) but there is no point if I can't draw more cards.

4. I put Forgotten Plans there because I cannot think of another good plot card. Any suggestions?

5. This set seems lacking saving ability. But that might not be a problem as there isn't really a core character.

Fury

It would be better if you may play "Baratheon Asshai"+ holy crest" since you use Melisandre (coreset)

Some charaters such as "Godswood Attendent", "Fiery Followers", "Jack of all trades", "Zealot of the Light ", etc should be taken into consideration.
