Magical Sight and non-School magic

By D. Archon, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

One of my players is going to Purchase Magical Sight soon for his wizaard, and ther eare a number of different types of magic that don't fit into the categories of Bright, Amber, etc.

What would the different non-school magics look like to someone with magical sight?

As I see it all the colours are distinct and flow around everything to a greater or lesser degree - have a look here for some ideas http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=165&efcid=3&efidt=430728

Obviously a Bright Mage actively casting will attract more of that wind then any other, but the iterpretation of how the winds move through the ether and swirl around different objects needs a skill like to Magic Sight a: to see them and b: to understand them. With time and practise characters can get better at not just seeing the different winds but also what they really represent.

I heard the guy that started that thread is really smart and good-looking. Some say, "A god among men".

That's just what I heard though.

Why, thank you for noticing!gran_risa.gif

Thanks for the links! To narrow down my question a little bit, let's say a Goblin shaman is casting some kind of spell like 'Eadbutt (to steal from WFB for a moment). Does greenskin magic use a wind (or multiple winds)? If so, which ones? Amber? Something else? If not, would a character with Magical Sight be able to see anything?

Well, Greenskins do not use magical winds. Their magic comes from the Power of the Waaagh! They themselves channel the mental energy which Greenskin magic-users can tab and use. And more agitated / violent Greenskins get, more they channel this energy (which can be used to do more powerful spells, or more spells).

But does Magical Sight see that energy? I would say Magical Sight (also known as "Witchsight") can see manifestation of any magical energy. They all just appear differently. Greenskin Waaagh Magic would probably not show as beatiful as any Wind, but as... Sparkling, wild, dangerous looking, unnatural... "Super Green".

One extra idea: Magical Sight is powerful skill to recognice the use of magic and notice places that channel magic. But not necesserily automaticly skill. For example Greenskins magic could be hard see. With difficulty Imperial Wizard might finally see the source of strange effects (which would be the Waagh! energy channelled by Greenskin Shaman) and another might not see anything and wonder what is going on.
