Can one pick up more than one deed? i vaguely recall seeing somewhere, that it is limited to one deed on character creation, is there a limit ? is the limit only for starting characters ? For instance i can imagine Imperial fists taking the glove even after they join Deathwatch, just for the warm and cozy feeling of being glorified masochists.

Deeds can only be picked up at character creation, and no character can have more than one. There is also the strong suggestion that you not allow two characters to have the same Deed for the sake of variety.

For later on, there's the really neat idea of Distinctions (like Sanguinary Guard, Emperor's Champion, Deathwing, etc.).

What about the forge master? What else could they possibly tack on a techmarines back....oh wait, a back mounted servitor with lascannons for arms, sorry I forgot. Is there any specialties for my apothecary, I would like the kill team to yell something other than "medic" when they get hurt, maybe when they come out of the fear induced coma they could say "screw you guys im going to see my shrink" (I think I should get a leather couch as standard gear).

But Seriously this book is taking way to long to get here.

Not much I saw for the Apothecary. Bright side is you can become a Chaplain... or a Dreadnought!

I see, thank you, sounds exciting

"Medic!"

*lumber lumber*

"YES BROTHER. SHOW ME THE WOUND"

*sound of revving chainfist*

"Y'know, it's not really as bad as I thought it was. I'll errr... I'll just walk it off..."

/sigh

I understand that the NE is in the middle of a bad blizzard and understand that my delivery was delayed there.

But a frikkin' rain storm in Jacksonville FL isn't an issue at sub-hurricane level so shouldn't delay it at all.

You should try being in Louisiana. We still haven't got Emperor Protects in yet.....I wonder what excuse they will give.

Wouldnt it be better if FF gave a release date and made sure it was in stores at that time?

Delays in getting to stores are probably not actually FFGs fault. They send a bunch of books to distributors. If it has arrived in any store on time, it means they sent it to the distributor. How long it takes the distributor to get the product to the store can depend on a lot of factors. If your store has trouble getting product to the shelves on time, complain to them. They should complain to their distributor. Assuming the problem isn't: I forgot to order that, which is far too often the case in small stores. Or a lot of smaller stores only order product once a month to save on shipping, etc.

Plus, it is still on time per the release date. It was said it'd be released in Winter 2011. Given that it is currently February 2011, and February is in Winter, they've hit the release date with 3 weeks to spare.

Remember that just because you want the book doesn't mean that your FLGS knows you want it. Make sure to ask them to pre-order or special order the book.I have never met a FLGS who isn't happy to order something. Some even give discounts on special orders or pre-orders.

But as was stated, the distributor that your FLGS uses is the one that ultimately controls when you can pick up a book.

Now that i went through the suggested successor chapters and their rules i must say that from game mechanics point of view part of the book is at least for me EXTREMELY UNDERWHELMING. Prone to imbalance and uselessness, the whole section might have simply be reduced to background and a single example of do´s and dont´s, which might have freed up enough room for an additional first founding chapter.I am very sad for Alex and his full fledged crimson fists rules, that is how they should have done it, not the half baked way it proved to be. Quality is always so much better then quantity...

I have to agree. I don't like the DIY Chapter Creation at all, and I wish it would've been scrapped (or at least put into a separate product that could do it justice) to allow that space to go towards really fleshing out the Successor Chapters. I'd have been much happier if each Successor Chapter would have had a modified list of Chapter Advances (based on the parent Chapter, but different), possibly a unique Talent that could have been purchased, a psychic power to differentiate them from the parent Chapter's list, and a relic or something.

As for game balance, some (like the Flesh Tearers) are powerful, while others (Knights of Blood - your special ability is that you can be a Black Shield, just like everyone else...) are weak. Most are oddly just a bit better than their parent Chapter. makes you wonder if perhaps all First Founding Chapters shouldn't get a minor bonus (+5?) to Fellowship with Imperials, perhaps Second Foundings could get one too (+3?). Otherwise, the "new kids" seem to gget all of the toys.

Doesn't mean I don't like the idea of playing a Consecrators Marine starting the game with Master-Crafted Mk6 "Corvus" Power Armour (I'm a beakie fan!), but it is a bit too much for no apparent drawback.

To make the issue even more pronounced, IF take 8 Pages space, Successor Chapters take 16, meaning that at least two more first foundig chapters could be fitted into the book instead of that half hearted unbalanced jumble. Now i would take Salamanders, Iron Hands, Raven Guard and White Scars in any combination instead of the successors, without ever having to think twice about it. And yes, there are successors which might be at least as interesting as any of those, but even then, if you are bringing them in make it a few, but do them justice...

The build your own Chapter crap took 30 pages. That means we could have fit in all of the First Founding Chapters and then had a full book devoted to Successor Chapters and create your own Chapter rules. Ideally the former would have been made compatible with the latter. Oh, lament for what could have been...

Looked at friends copy while waiting for mine to come in while we gamed last Sat...and I gotta ask, where are the Iron hands? You can use them as a Progenitor force but unless they are farther into the book than I got to see how would you make a char using them as a prog??

Nevermind found where it says to ignore and re-roll.

Ordered mine from Leisuregames.com today.

It should be here soon!

Picked it up from my FLGS yesterday and have been digesting it overnight. I'm really enjoying the background info on Erioch and its inhabitants. I've got to echo the disappointment at the DIY chapter section. It's mainly a guide on constructing the background fluff which is redundant if you're building a chapter that's already established in 40k lore. As for the successor chapters I thought that the Crimson Fist's hatred of Orks would really only make sense if the DW timeline was set after the Rynn's world campaign? Given that the Crimson Fists provide so many marines to the DW why not give them a bonus to Forbidden Lore(xenos) instead of just hatred(orks)s?

Well, hatred... yes. But the Crimson Fists have been eradicating plenty of orks before that. In fact the CF liberated the Loki sector largely of the widespread Ork infestations that had taken root there. As a reward for that they were being given Rynn's world which effectively prompted the Snagrod backlash later on.

I'll have to update my custom CF chapter rules as soon as I got RoB.
