Expansion Heal or Hurt

By gb14, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 8
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 11
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 12 (Heal)
Black Goat of the Woods - 5 (Hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 11

I wonder if the 3 big-boxes will be the top three...I say we take this to best small/big box heal or hurt...

Anyway! Innsmouth because I said "if I could vote twice" so I did. And Black Goat because Mi-Go asked nicely...

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 9(Heal)
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 11
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 12
Black Goat of the Woods - 4(Hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 11

I loathe BGotW for its insanely tough Herald, sterile, lifeless Other World cards, lackluster (with one noticeable exception) Mythos cards and the general inability to get Corruption cards without using the Herald. I regard it as the worst small box expansion of all time.

CotDP, on the other hand, has an excellent Herald, great Other World cards and is so thick with theme that it practically drips off the Mythos cards.

I stick by my original post, but I more or less agree with Solan—although my description of the expansions would be a little less emphatic.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 9
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 11
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 12
Black Goat of the Woods - 3(Hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 12 (Heal)

Sure the Lurker is a semi-guardian of sorts, but with a few houserules he can be fixed. He's the most interesting herald though, with all his dark pacts and power. Not to mention those lurker gates and all the other elements incorporated into this game are very thematic and fun to play with.

And Black Goat is a little........bleh.

hahaha I like that you gave the same reason twice for BGotW. I don't mind if you guys vote more than once, I'm just trying to see everyone's opinions on the expansions.

Also, I probably should have split it between big and small boxes. Didn't occur to me. =/
I think it's safe to say I won't be buying BGotW any time soon. Close tie for the lead though... hmm.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 9

Dunwich Horror - 13 (Heal)
The King in Yellow - 11
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 12
Black Goat of the Woods - 2 (Hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 12

BGotW gets the hurt since it doesn't really add anything interesting to the game. If it has a theme it's 'moar munstars!"

Dunwich is still the overall most useful expansion to have, it adds something fun to everything, even if you don't use the board. The other board expansion are much more focused.

Shouldn't games like this have you hurt more than you heal (i.e. hurt 2, heal 1) so they don't go on forever?

I'm with DoomTurtle on this issue. Besides, shouldn't be more practical, instead of voting a couple of expansions and stop, playing like you hurt three of them, heal three of them, and ignore the remaining one?

Yeah. We should start doing that. In fact, I will.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 9

Dunwich Horror - 13

The King in Yellow - 11
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 13 (Heal)
Black Goat of the Woods - 0 (Hurt & Dead)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 12

Avi, I'm pretty sure he meant "Hurt 2 DIFFERENT ones, Heal 1"...but whatever.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 8 (Hurt)
Dunwich Horror - 13
The King in Yellow - 10 (Hurt)
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 14 (Heal)
Black Goat of the Woods - 0
The Lurker at The Threshold - 12

Dark Pharaoh - my interest in Exhibits wore out too fast
King in Yellow - King of Dilution
Innsmouth - Falcon Point mechanic is so nifty

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 7 (Hurt)
Dunwich Horror - 13
The King in Yellow - 11 (Heal)
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 14
Black Goat of the Woods - 0 (Hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 12

I just had to hurt the BGotW just to emphasize it's lameness, even though Avi already "eliminated" it. Good work for doing what must be done! The DP is my next target now, not because it's lame but it's just not THAT good.

Anyway, the KiY is a very interesting small-box with an interesting and powerful herald, and it's rich with theme and excellent common, unique, and spell items introduced.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 8 (Heal)
Dunwich Horror - 13
The King in Yellow - 10 (Hurt)
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 14
Black Goat of the Woods - 0
The Lurker at The Threshold - 11(Hurt)

CotDP is my favorite of the small box expansions, but I'm firmly of the opinion that all of the small box expansions are far inferior to any of the Horrors; they just can't equal the allure of new boards, new characters and new Ancient Ones.

That's kind of the problem. I can predict how this game will end: Black Goat, Dark Pharaoh, King in Yellow, Lurker, Kingsport, Dunwich, Innsmouth. Yawn. The only nailbiter will be whether Dunwich can edge out Innsmouth for the #1 spot. Now, if a small box can edge out a big box, things may get interesting.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 8
Dunwich Horror - 12 (hurt)
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 15 (heal)
Black Goat of the Woods - 0
The Lurker at The Threshold - 10 (hurt)

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 8
Dunwich Horror - 13 (heal)
The King in Yellow - 9 (hurt)
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 15
Black Goat of the Woods - 0
The Lurker at The Threshold - 9 (hurt)

Heh... I'm not sure if your Lurker prediction is correct at all. I wouldn't be surprised if DP and KiY beat it. I'd be surprised if it beat both.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 7 (hurt)
Dunwich Horror - 13
The King in Yellow - 9
Kingsport Horror - 13 (heal)
Innsmouth Horror - 15
Black Goat of the Woods - 0 (hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 9

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 8 (heal)
Dunwich Horror - 13
The King in Yellow - 10 (heal)
Kingsport Horror - 13
Innsmouth Horror - 15
Black Goat of the Woods - 0 (hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 9

i don't really know any to hurt, so lets hurt BGotW as it doesn't go lower than zero..
heal goes to KiY and CotDP because they're so thematic and easily integrated on a game without having to throw out all game boards for the full effect. surely the big box expansions have investigators and ancient ones that i wouldn't un-buy.. but the small boxes deserve some loving.

edit: turns out i did two heal and one hurt, which actually was nil hurt. anyhow...

*walks off whistling*

heh, I'll keep on hurting BGotW even if it's already "eliminated". I'm glad you feel the same way. gui%C3%B1o.gif

"I've hurt you. And I wish to go on hurting you. I shall leave you as you left me, as you left her. Marooned for all eternity, at the center of a dead planet. Buried alive."

Kingsport Horror - 13

Dark Pharaoh: Benefits and Detriments get old quickly.
King in Yellow: No Gate Bursts.
Lurker: Double Gate Openings!

"Excuse me, Admiral. But wasn't the Black Goat eliminated already?"
"And it will be again. That's the beauty of it."

If I have to fight the God of the Bloody Tongue in the other world again, I can't be held responsible for what I'm going to do!

A doom token? Really?

If I was a gay sailor I would be all over Silas!

The King in Yellow - 9
Kingsport Horror - 12 (Hurt)
Innsmouth Horror - 17 (Heal)
Black Goat of the Woods - 0
The Lurker at The Threshold - 9

I love you guys.

(The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few...or the thousand(?))

Anyways yeah: boring board, really boring board, awesome board

You guys think I should remake this with the hurt 2 heal 1 rule, maybe with two categories for the different expansion sizes?
