Expansion Heal or Hurt

By gb14, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Not sure if forum games are allowed, if not feel free to remove this but i thought it be an interesting way to see everyone's favorite expansion.

Heal your favorite, Hurt your least favorite. Only vote once please.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 10
Dunwhich Horror - 10
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 10
Innsmouth Horror - 10
Black Goat in The Woods - 10
The Lurker at The Threshold - 10

I'll do the first one since it seems some people (13 views worth) are not participating in such a fun and amazing game.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 10
Dunwhich Horror - 11(Heal)
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 9(Hurt)
Innsmouth Horror - 10
Black Goat in The Woods - 10
The Lurker at The Threshold - 10

I don't think I can participate. All expansions improve the game on their own, but expansions often negatively affect each other, particularly when many are mixed together. Your setup also assumes that there has to be some net sum of expansion benefit.

From the angle of negative expansion mixing, Kingsport actually heals the game, because it doesn't dilute.

Give a hoot, don't dilute...

I think I'm a little confused. This was just supposed to be a way to find out everyone's favorite and least favorite expansion collectively by the use of the forum game lol. As in you heal your favorite and hurt your least favorite and whichever one had the most numbers I was going to look into buying. I guess I should have explained it better. I didn't mean it literally.

Which expansions do you already have? I am assuming you have already bought the 2 you voted on.

I voted from what I read about them all and how interested I was in them.

In the spirit of mindless fun:

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 10
Dunwich Horror - 12 (Heal)
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 9
Innsmouth Horror - 10
Black Goat of the Woods - 9 (Hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 10

Thank you, finally. If you wouldn't mind, can you list why you like/don't like the ones you voted for? happy.gif (Not just you, but anyone who votes.)

Alright, I'll bite o_O

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 11 (Heal)
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 9
Innsmouth Horror - 10
Black Goat of the Woods - 8 (Hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 10

Because I think Pharaoh is underrated (even if its wordage is confusing...but it's FFG, that's normal, right?). And because BGotW had so much promise! And...didn't deliver (though an amazingly hard herald almost swayed me). Not that any of these are bad. It's just my least favorite, really.

Based on my perception of the various story elements in the expansions:

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 11
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 10 (Heal)
Innsmouth Horror - 9 (Hurt)
Black Goat of the Woods - 8
The Lurker at The Threshold - 10

Have you ever seen this? Aside from being awesome, it covers pretty much all the important aspects of the Innsmouth Horror expansion

No I haven't, but aside from being an entertaining piece it does not change my perception of the story behind Innsmouth. I'm not judging the new AOs, Investigators etc. but the overall atmosphere of the expansion. Innsmouth is a one trick pony, beside Deep Ones there isn't much to it (yes, the story about it is awesome). If you look from my perspective, the perspective of a Call of Cthulhu RPG fan, you will notice that both Dunwich and Kingsport are way more interesting because of the amount of interesting stories or rulebooks about them. I stand by my opinion.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 10 (Hurt)
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 10
Innsmouth Horror - 10 (Heal)
Black Goat of the Woods - 8
The Lurker at The Threshold - 11

Because "Barred from Neighborhood" is the worst AH mechanic to date, and Innsmouth FINALLY gave me Deep Ones.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 10
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 10
Innsmouth Horror - 11 (Heal)
Black Goat of the Woods - 7 (Hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 11

I hate the herald for BGotW, and it irritates me to no end how the corruption mechanic and the cults mechanic don't really work well. Sure, it makes for great customizeable material, but I like not having to customize things too.

I love Innsmouth because it's such a nasty board that eats people, and because the personal stories are awesome, and it comes with tons of extra AOs and investigators.

If I could vote twice, I woulda voted for Innsmouth for those very reasons. I already have enough small cards, so why add more? I DON'T have enough Investigators or AOs. And never will... o_O Oh, and people getting devoured is hilarious to me. I...don't know why. I never TRY to get someone devoured (unless it's Tommy Muldoon, of course!), but when a statue falls on someone in the graveyard I just find that sense of hopelessness fitting...and hilarious...

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 11 (Heal)
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 10
Innsmouth Horror - 10 (Hurt)
Black Goat of the Woods - 7
The Lurker at The Threshold - 11

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 10 (Hurt)
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 11 (Heal)
Innsmouth Horror - 10
Black Goat of the Woods - 7
The Lurker at The Threshold - 11

Dark Pharoah: poor wording on the cards, and the Barred from the Neighborhood thing, which is a mechanic I completely dislike

Kingsport: I love the board. And the universal mechanics of rifts. And the Mythos cards (especially the Rumors). And the White ship thing. And the idea you can meet Nodens in the farthest house of the city. And the visions of that city with galleons travelling the sea under an ancient sun

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 10
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 10
Kingsport Horror - 11
Innsmouth Horror - 11 (Heal)
Black Goat of the Woods - 6 (Hurt)
The Lurker at The Threshold - 11

Innsmouth's a big plus. I love the dark, gloomy theme it casts over the game, not to mention it provides an awesome challenge with powerful AOs and the Deep One Rising Track. And 16 investigators! Can't beat that.

Black Goat is.................... well a little blah.

Investigator goes squish in the night.

Just curious, according to this "game" of expansion heal or hurt, is it possible for the same member of this forum to contribute multiple times?

'Cause I want to see Black Goat eliminated!

Well... You're supposed to play this game where votes reset each day (because we don't have enough active forum contributors to finish it otherwise).

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 9 (Hurt)
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 11 (Heal)
Kingsport Horror - 11
Innsmouth Horror - 11
Black Goat of the Woods - 6
The Lurker at The Threshold - 11

DP - I don't mind the vague wording so much, but many cards are unbalanced. They can make the game too easy or too hard

KiY - It's hard to imagine a terror track without Blights

Yikes... I just realized that split gates remove both types of monsters from the board. Plus the guardian disguised as a herald. I better take a point off Lurker even though I love its components for customization purposes. Five years into the game you'd think expansions might make things harder, not considerably easier.

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 9
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 11
Kingsport Horror - 12 (Heal)
Innsmouth Horror - 11
Black Goat of the Woods - 6
The Lurker at The Threshold - 10(Hurt)

Curse of The Dark Pharaoh - 8 (Hurt)
Dunwich Horror - 12
The King in Yellow - 11
Kingsport Horror - 12
Innsmouth Horror - 11
Black Goat of the Woods - 6
The Lurker at The Threshold - 11 (Heal)

Lurker has better Encounters (than Black Goat) while still retaining Gate Bursts that only need Arkham in play. Dark Pharaoh did NOTHING to make Nyarlathotep meaner, leaving him still the easiest AO to beat.
