The old man gazed up at you, fading hope glimmering in his one remaining eye. “The path before you is perilous, I know. But you must remain steadfast. You are the chosen one, and the fate of these lands rest in your hands.”
Two weeks ago, we announced the upcoming Realms of Terrinoth 2011, an exciting event celebrating the rich fantasy universe of Runebound, Descent: Journeys in the Dark, Runewars, and DungeonQuest. Taking place February 25th-27th at the spacious Fantasy Flight Games Event Center, Realms of Terrinoth 2011 offers weekend-long access to engaging competitions, awesome events, and informative seminars!
But what can you expect, specifically? As with last year’s popular Realms of Terrinoth event, we have plenty of engaging attractions in store... including some you've never seen! Here are just a few examples of the challenging adventures we have planned.
The Delve of Doom
Descent: Journeys in the Dark is widely considered one of the most tactically deep dungeon crawl board games available. With one player taking on the antagonistic role of the Overlord and the other players assuming the roles of valiant heroes, Descent lends itself well to competitive play. The Delve of Doom, however, is a unique type of competition that puts players through a grueling dungeon with nearly no hope of success.

(Last year's Delve of Doom winners, along with overlord extraordinaire Rob Kouba)
Fighting against an omniscient Overlord (an event official who won’t be pulling any punches), players compete in teams, taking control of the heroes. Each team must survive the dungeon for as long as possible, progressing as far as they can. There’s virtually no chance that you’ll survive long enough to complete the dungeon, but with a bit of luck and a lot of skill, your team might just cling to life longer than any other. In the end, your distance will be recorded and compared to that of the other competitors, with exciting prizes awarded to the team that makes the most progress!
Last year’s Delve of Doom was a huge success, with players and spectators both cringing as the heroes continually fell victim to the vast hordes awaiting them. We are thrilled to be able to provide a new, even deadlier Delve of Doom at this year’s Realms of Terrinoth!
Extreme Dungeon Makeover
For the creative crowd, the Extreme Dungeon Makeover puts Descent fans in the role of the diabolical architect in charge of constructing the most original hero-slaying dungeon in all of Terrinoth.
Participants are given a bag of random dungeon bits that their group must use to construct their Overlord’s keep. Each group races against the clock to turn their mixed bag of dungeon accessories into a living, breathing Descent scenario. Confer briefly about the theme and premise of your dungeon, assign someone to write flavor text and instructions, and get started! What interesting and unexpected components will you find in your bag, and how will you use them creatively?
Scenarios will be judged on originality, adherence to the rules, and theme. You can even check out the dungeons of last year’s winners in the exclusive Realms of Terrinoth 2011 souvenir booklet!
Runebound Alternate Endgame
Are you a fan of the popular adventure game Runebound? Be among the first ever to experience an all new end game variant designed by John Goodenough!
Using the base game, players are faced with a much greater task than facing off against Margath. Rather than searching for three dragon runes or defeating the reawakened Dragonlord, players must complete a series of quests to earn their victory. Each of these quests are designed to highlight a particular mechanic or element in Runebound, so players looking for an even more challenging adventure in Terrinoth will certainly find it. But with all the great events happening throughout the weekend, you may not find the time to experience this exciting variant. Don’t worry; all the necessary rules and components will be provided in your exclusive Realms of Terrinoth gift bag!
With a weekend of great gaming, seminars, and your favorite designers just four weeks away, why would you hesitate? Pre-register for Realms of Terrinoth 2011 at our webstore. And remember, signing up before February 10th gets you even more exclusive material!
