While the Myphos card Strange Murders is in play all Flying monsters have their toughness increased by 2 & gain Overwhelming 1. What happens if a Flying monster in play already has Overwhelming 1, does it stay at Overwhelming1 or is it increased to Overwhelming 2.

My guess is that it's an oversight. Since Overwhelming and Nightmarish are scalar values, I'd say "gain" in this case means "+1," giving the creature Overwhelming 2.

I've always been kind of bugged by the wording of that card, because I knew that even though there only existed monsters with Overwhelming 1 and Nightmarish 1 in the base game, the abilities were designed to stack. That's why they weren't just referred to simply as "Overwhelming" and "Nightmarish."

Thankfully, the wording on similar Innsmouth mythos cards made it clear that the ability stacked.

Well... It'd definitely be more fun to play it Tibs' way ;'D (and there's a decent chance he's right).

Read as intended, it should either say what Insmouth says or say "Flying monsters gain/have Overwhelming+1." Or maybe even "increase their Overwhelming value by 1." A little more confusing is that one, though, but covers everything since if you don't have overwhelming, you technically have overwhelming 0. But yes, I'll continue to play it as Overwhelming +1 :-)

Though I think it only effects about 2 creatures I currently own (Flying Polyp and Servitor of the Outer Gods)
