New Player looking for Lannister Chapter Pack Advice

By ironchefzod, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Hi old AGoT ccg player starting back up. I haven't really played since about the 3rd CCG expansion so the majority of my old cards aren't playable. Anyway my friends and I are most interested in playing the original factions- Lannister, Stark, and Baratheon and as such have picked up the base set and the Stark and Baratheon deluxe expansions. We were wondering what chapter packs to get to help give Lannister a nice boost in cards as there is no deluxe Lannister expansion as of yet. Thanks for the help.

You absolutely need Battle of the Ruby Ford for Castellan of the Rock . The other CPs from the A Clash of Arms cycle have very nice and possibly essential cards for Lanni, too (well, Epic Battles possibly the least so). Note that some of them are banned for tournament play, though.

The shadow mechanic works very well with Lannister, so you might want to take a look at the King's Landing cycle of CP.

If you're interested about Bara, too, then there's a thread in the Deckbuliding forum right now...

There have been quite a few threads with this very question (and the same for other houses) that you may be able to find if you search the forums. I know the search feature is pretty terrible on these forums though...someone should really just sticky some of these threads so that they're much easier to find.

For information on house strengths/weaknesses, and suggestions for which cards to play, try this thread http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=16&efcid=4&efidt=415451. Once you figure out some of the cards you like (search using Dabbler or CardGameDB), just buy the related chapter packs. Hope this helps!

Yeah my main issue is the search function on these forums. I've read the general strength and weaknesses house threads where people list cards, but I was just hoping there was some older thread that had the chapter packs ranked and what was good in them for lannister listed. I figure I can't possibly be the first person who's come on the forums asking to start Lannister and looking for chapter pack advice. Was hoping there would be links to older threads, but I can't find any specifically about chapter packs.

Grab a 2nd core set, IMO that is the most important thing for any Lannister deck.

as Ratatoskr said Battle of Ruby Ford is important. I'd also consider grabbing Ancient Enemies for the Fury Plots and Calling the Banners for Ser Lancel Lannister .

After that it depends on the type of deck you want to run. If you want shadows get pretty much all the Kings Landing Cycle packs and a Clansman deck can be built with The Brotherhood Without Banners Cycle .

Well, if you like the kneel or control strategy, you can pretty much forego most of the clansmen stuff. In fact, since a lot of the clansmen stuff is based around you having fewer cards in your hand than each opponent, I'd say you can pretty much just ignore most of it.

I agree with the 2nd Core Set, and having three copies of each Core Set card would be ideal, though you can get by without. Namely, you'll want to consider 3x Golden Tooth Mines. It's also nice to have 3x of the events you want to run if you want to streamline the deck, but you can definitely get by with 2x if you want to save some money. As far as Castellan of the Rock goes, that's definitely a staple that I would include in any Lanni deck. I think one chapter pack will give you 3x, which is nice. Also, I'll echo Darksbane's suggestion about the Fury plots, though I think the City-traited plots (from the King's Landing cycle) are seeing a lot of play these days as well. So after the 2-3x Core Set, 1x Battle of Ruby Ford, and then start into the King's Landing block.

Awesome thanks for the advice all. Just got Lords of Winter and Kings of the Storm today so definitely eager to get some more Lannister options for deck building.
