Please help - Simplified treachery

By Steven3009, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi. please help,

It is not obvious from the Road to legend rules how to use simplified treachery. I don't have Altar or Well expansions.

Please could explain its mechanics in the example?

" At the start of each dungeon, the overlord player may spend treachery to receive extra threat to spend in that dungeon. For every point of treachery spent, place four threat on the appropriate treachery section of the Avatar sheet (monster, trap, or event). This threat may only be spent on cards of the appropriate type (spawn, trap, or event). Power cards may not be paid for with this threat. For every point of treachery not spent on threat, the overlord draws one extra card at the start of the dungeon. " - RtL pg.24

Is this the "example" you're referring to? I didn't see anything else int he vicinity of the Simplified Treachery rules.

Okay, so here's how it works: You start with no treachery points at all. Your Avatar sheet has three hexagons (red, purple and green) with a number inside and a "Max" value below. The number inside is the XP cost to buy a single point of each type of treachery, and it varies depending on which Avatar you pick. The Max is the maximum amount of each type of treachery you can buy.

Per Simplified Treachery rules, at the start of any dungeon you take 4 Threat tokens per point of treachery you've bought in a given category and set it aside (the rules say to put in on top of the appropriate hexagon on the Avatar sheet, but I don't think there's enough room if you have all three types) This is effectively free Threat that can only be spent on one type of card (Spawn cards for Red Treachery, Event cards for Green and Trap cards for Purple.) At an exchange rate of 4 threat per point, this will add up pretty fast, allowing you to play cards of this type much faster than you could normally accumulate threat to pay for them. You cannot pay for Power cards with any of the three types of Treachery. Cards are labeled at the top with Spawn, Event or Trap (or Power) to tell you which kind of card is which. Cards from expansions are further coloured according to type.

For each point of treachery you have purchased, you may choose to forego getting the 4 Threat from that point of Treachery and instead draw an extra card at the start of the dungeon.

Note that you get these points of Treachery at the start of each dungeon . You don't have to rebuy them. For example, once you've purchased 2 Trap (purple) Treachery, you will have 2 points of Purple Treachery at the start of each dungeon. That will equate to 8 Threat you get when setting up the dungeon, which can only be spent to pay for Trap cards, or 4 Threat of this kind and 1 extra card in your hand, or just 2 extra cards. You get to make the choice each dungeon. You will also gain "regular" Threat at the regular rate, which can be spent for anything. That's why they suggest keeping the Treachery threat separated from your regular threat pool.
