Fixes to the rules

By pulsar3, in Battlelore

I would love to hear what criticisms and fixes people have come up with for this game, especially who have played this game a dozen times or so.

Please include house rules and any physical modes of play, meaning manners and courtesies of game play (such as announcing turns, placement of tokens in certain ways, etc.) that clarify game play or make certain rules easier to follow.

1} Use Battle Savvy rules in all your sessions regardless of scenario.

2} That is all. gui%C3%B1o.gif

the only changes I make are in which boxes to use, specially if I'm going to use heroes or not. or call to arms or not.

if using CtA, I tend to rule that the first player (the one who scouts out the other) has priority in choosing Specialist cards, taking the first of his two, than the second player takes his 2, and first player takes his second.

not much, really.

oh! using CtA I rule that banners give the limit of units. if you have a goblin archer banner, for instance, but you don't have any other goblin archer figures, you could use any other goblin figures with that banner to make a goblin archer units. but if you don't have the banner, no unit.

that's all.

Anything else? This must be a pretty sound system (well of course it is, given it's the same system as hey that reminds me)

Can anyone compare this game for me to the Battles of Westeros version?

it is a pretty sound system! it achieves perfectly what it goes for: a fast paced medieval fantasy military adventure. it has room for a lot of strategy, but also for a lot of luck. it's the best board game I've ever played (ok, I'm not that into board games) and I love how it is structured, making it a miniature game without you having to organize the best army.

I've never played BoW. I understand there are great differences between the two games, but, as I don't have a feel of how BoW rules work for BoW, I couldn't compare them with BL. what I can risk to say is that BoW rules doesn't seem to be a very good idea in a BL game. and that is not to say a thing about how BoW being released as "a BL game" in a time where we weren't seeing any future for BL made all of us BL fans at least a little jumpy about BoW (go and ask Frag abou being closer to "explosive" ;] ).

I do love Martin's universe and I would like to play BoW very much. but I've invested a lot in BL so far, and, as I'm from Brazil, buying games through Internet, paying mail taxes and risking outrageous importantion taxes is not a thing that makes you so eager to start a new game investment. I'm hoping to complete every BL box (waiting to see the repurposed ones) and then I can start thinking about other things.
