Demented Phrenologist

By Kennon, in CoC General Discussion

Conceptually, I love the idea of phrenology being in Hastur's realm. In application though.... I don't think I want to use a 3 cost character based reducer that only reduces by 1 and can only be used every other turn without quite a bit of support. If it reduced by two, then I'd consider it.

It can actually be used every turn. Each refresh phase he restores, then you can drive him insane again that turn.

Ah, correct! I had missed that he didn't exhaust to use his ability (which would make it take two turns). Hmm.... that makes him more useful, yes. I'm still not sure that I want to pay 3 for a -1 that's tied in to a character body and is that easy to remove.

Spoilers for this AP started with a bang and have ended with a whimper. If someone wants to create a buzz then there are hopefully more interesting cards to choose from than an Agency Support card that provides temporary Willpower and a Hastur cost reducer (that does not combo well with V's Loft). Yawn...

At any rate, we now have our 4 spoilers so this AP should be on the boat soon. Here is to hoping the rest of it provides additional magic* for the environment.

Starting to see a lot of cost reduction lately... So far its pretty tame (that new one for Silver twilght might not be so tame) and questionably lame, but I just hope history doesn't repeat itself.

Concidering Hastur isn't supposed to be the cost reduction faction, it is ok, and fits the curve nicely.

Turn 1 you can have a 2 drop.

Turn 2 you can have Phrenologist and another 2 drop.

Turn 3 you can have a 4 drop, or another Prenologist and another 3 (third Phrenologist, then 2 drop?)

He's no ritual or ancient gold or anything, but he does pay himself back, tempo wise, and cost reduction can get out of hand fast.

If you pilot him, then it can't happen fast enough, and then it would be nice if he only costs one but...

When you can combo him out with restore effects, then things are really looking up, though.
