Another Game, Another Few Questions

By RocksLikeToast, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

A few scenarios popped up last night that me and my friends didn't have an exact answer for...

1) An encounter card read:

'A monster surprises you! After the battle, if you passed a Horror Check, draw Spells equal to the monster's Horror damage. If you failed a Horror check, you emerge with resolve: You may search the Skill deck for the Bravery card and take it.'

The problem was...the monster pulled was a Shan (no Horror dmg) and if you fail a horror check against him you are devoured...

If the horror check is failed against a Shan when it is an encounter monster...are you still devoured?...luckily my friend passed the check anyway so we didnt have to worry about it but it still brought up the question lengua.gif

2) An Other World encounter says to: Discard all of your items, except those for which you discard a Clue Token or pay $3.

does this one simply mean that you can pay to keep some of your items if you have clue tokens or $3?...the wording is awkward on it.

1) Well, I suppose if you fought a Shan, if you pass the horror check you would be unable to draw any spells. And if you fail.... well, you would be dead before you could acquire bravery.

2) Yes, your interpretation is correct. You may spend a clue token or $3 to protect one of your items.

"If you failed a Horror check, you emerge with resolve: You may search the Skill deck for the Bravery card and take it."

Problem with the Shan is that if you fail the horror check, you're not going to emerge.

Encounter monsters are treated just like regular monsters it's just they disappear after combat or evading (and the Werewolf has a special little bit).
